It's nice to see someone step up and take note of the similarities between the two groups. In my opinion, the brony fandom would not have existed as it does today without the years of priming that the anime scene had provided in the name of introducing Western nerd audiences to girl-centered animation (Sailor Moon, Cardcaptor Sakura, etc.), and as others have noted, there is actually quite a bit of overlap between the fandoms. That said, there's a surprising amount of animosity from the "old guard" anime elitists who really dislike the attention that bronies get and, in particular, the degree to which we contribute to the trend of fandom convergence. It strikes me as odd how they'll call us out for this-or-that behavior when they're just as guilty of essentially the same thing. It's an enormous case of "pot-kettle-black" syndrome. Can't we all just like the shows we like without getting into giant nerd-fights about it? We're all cut from the same cloth, after all...
