Could I create a generic 'over-hyped' genre and put these kinds of books in there and say 'just not my kind of genre'? For example I generally don't read YA, Romance or Sci Fi. But then I also don't rule out books entirely because they are in that genre, I just find less books that I enjoy. So maybe that argument won't work. Although I generally only read a book in one of those genres because it has been recommended by someone - I have not heard anyone (whose opinion I trust) say 50 shades is a good book so that doesn't help.
