Spark | CBC Radio : 1-877-34-SPARK: Aspirational technology purchases

I think musicians are vulnerable to new technologies that become available. I know this because I am one and I've seen evidence of it all my life. If you go to a music store you will see people actively dreaming of what they could do if only they had this or that device. The good news is that musicians are generally short on cash and can't just rush out and buy stuff; they have to be selective. Who doesn't know someone who has a guitar that sits in a corner and never gets played? At the time of the purchase, the person probably thought they couldn't live without a guitar until they got it home and discovered how much work was ahead... My weakness is recording equipment. I've made a couple of expensive purchases over the years that I probably shouldn't have but for the most part my poverty keeps these sort of events in check. I've simply had to think long and hard before I buy something.
