KVAL - Eugene, OR : Equipment falls into creek at construction site | Local & Regional News for Eugene, Springfield Oreg

WOW! This new information is totally useless. Could you be any more vague about the details? If you want to help motorists you could at least give a mile marker, the creek name or even which side of which town Territorial HWY goes through/by. All I know is that somewhere between Monroe and Curtin Road (South of Lorane) there was an incident that might cause traffic delays.

Beautiful ride, but very dangerous. 20 MPH corners, wet roads, multiple driveways and BLM road with logging trucks entering and exiting can easily turn a pleasant ride into a tragic incident. Hopefully the rider will be alright.

KVAL - Eugene, OR : 14 dead as gunman opens fire at Batman screening in Colorado | National & World News | Eugene News,

Yeah because screening people works so well for keeping alcohol and tobacco out of the hands of underage youth who want access to it. Prohibiting marijuana sales has stopped them from occurring. It was reported that the suspect was wearing a bulletproof vest and gas mask like the main villain in the movie. Maybe we need to screen people beyond there age before letting them watch a movie while were at it.

Hmmm..."road rage." A little more detail would be nice. Was there physical damage to a vehicle or person? Tracking someone down for stupid antics is (itself) stupid. So far all I can summarize from this article is the old man is a bad driver, four guys came onto his property to "confront" him, old man is outnumbered and muscled so he defends himself (in front of his home) with a firearm. Confronting bad drivers is rarely a good idea (especially as a mob), best to just call it in with the vehicle make/model and a license plate number. Let the cops take the risk of being shot.

KVAL - Eugene, OR : Lifeguard fired after helping save drowning man | Outdoors | Eugene News, Weather, Sports, Breaking

It's a horrible double edged sword. On one hand he was on the company dime/insurance/liabiltiy and expected to perform his job in accordance to the guidelines in which he was paid. On the other, a man was drowning. If he were off the clock and hanging out at the beach no one (at his former job) would have cared. But the fact is he was currently on the companies time (and therefore liability) when the incident happened. "Duty to act" doesn't protect this person from performing his act of heroism, though I'm sure he can sleep much better at night knowing he did all he could to save another's life without regard for his own well being. That in itself is the definition of a hero, hopefully he can bounce back from this with a little knowledge and a lot of pride.

KVAL - Eugene, OR : Ban plastic bags? City of Eugene wants your input | Business | Eugene News, Weather, Sports, Breakin

I took the survey as well and opposed to being a set of neutral questions to gauge the community, it really seemed to want (the results) to give the impression that people would be o.k. with the ban even if they are not. I especially found it funny on question #4 when it tells you to "Please check all that apply" and then only lets you pick one option. No where did I see the question asking if I sometimes feel that checkers simply use more bags then necessary or how many bags do I typically use on an average trip to the store.

Why not improve the accessibility to recycling these bags? Opposed to making me take a handful of dirty bags (in my car) to the store for recycling drop-off, offer a once every month (or two) curbside pickup? I can store them out of the way, reuse what I can and responsibly dispose of my surplus. Banning would only drive consumers to nearby communities that aren't affected by the city ordinance (Springfield, Santa Clara, Veneta, Elmira). All those communities are less then 15 minutes from there closest Eugene border. Can Eugene afford to send local revenue to other communities over an issue as silly as a bag?

KVAL - Eugene, OR : Eugene 4J student data breach: Are you on the list? | Local & Regional News for Eugene, Springfield

Why should I have to contact them? They screwed up, they know who it affects, they should send me a letter or message (along with the letter credit agencies require to put the 90 day alert on a minors account) stating which of my children were affected. If this was a private organization they would be covering their butts by offering to pay for credit monitoring, for the affected kids, as long as they are enrolled in 4j.

KVAL - Eugene, OR : School computers hacked for student personal data | Local & Regional News for Eugene, Springfield Or

You cannot just call one of the credit agencies and have a 90 day alert put on your child's name and SS number. You have to submit, via mail, lots of information (letter explaining what happened, birth certificates, SS cards, proof of residency etc, etc) regarding your child and your relationship. Only then can an alert be placed. If you have more then one child enrolled in 4j then a separate packet containing all this information must be sent for them as well This is not a quick call. To call this an inconvenience is a complete understatement.

"Delf said that the district is sharing information about the breach and about steps that students potentially affected can do to protect against misuse of their personal information." If I am reading this right not every student in 4j was affected. Could we get a little clarification? How many potential students were affected by this breach? So far 4j sent out a massive e-mail to parents, is this the only notification or will there be a letter specifically going out to the students/parents whose information was breached?

Oh thank goodness. I was afraid someone might see my daughters 3.6 GPA. REALLY they offer that as a comfort, "The exposed data did not include any academic or financial information, such as grades, test scores or credit card numbers." Whoever is in charge of the districts I.T./security should be relieved for allowing such lax standards. That much information should never be so readily available within any organization. This is plain gross negligence on the districts behalf and they should have to pay for credit monitoring for any student affected beyond the free 90 days provided by the agencies.
