( SpaceX ). I have done some work for SETI, and as a hobby I've built my own radio Telescope... Currently listening to the 1.2 - 1.4 GHZ band. Robots rule! I get to play with some at work, as most of my work involves remote sensing and material detection. The company I work for has done feasibility studies to see just how inexpensively a rover could be built. The biggest expense is not buiilding the rover, but getting it to the surface in one piece. Then you have to contend with high amounts of radiation destroying the electronics which can be shielded by a solar panel array on top of the body... Telcoms, and what ever equipment for testing, and experiments... it goes on and on, but definitely can be done without the help of the government ( Look what Virgin Atlantic / Paul Allen consortium have accomplished. )__ Nope... I haven't found anything on Mars, but I'm willing to go look.__ SETI is not looking at Mars. Don't get me wrong I'm all for exploration of space, but a government run organization is just asking for failure.
