If Santorum, Gingrich or Romney get the nomination, they will lose to Obama as they have little to no crossover appeal. Dr. Paul would stand a chance but he'll never get the opportunity unless its a brokered convention (and even if that happens the nomination would probably go to that dimwit Palin or some other born loser). If you're going to lose in 2012, it may as well be by a landslide,so you're motivated to make significant change the next time the election rolls around.
