Binary Basketball : Defense Wins Championships - Give Me a Break

I understand the phrase well enough, I just think it's overused and thrown around like it's the secret key to sounding like a smart basketball fan. If anything I was hoping to prove with these statistics that great teams win championships and not defense. Teams that work together on both ends of the court are the truly dominant teams. I think it was also a good article to point out that points per game is a ridiculous statistic because it doesn't take efficiency into account like points per 100 possessions.

Thank you for the suggestions. I was unable to add @scrich because I didn't see any basketball content on it. The updates are on the queue and should be live within the next 24 hours.

Binary Basketball : Video of LeBron James Getting Dunked on Confiscated by Nike

Interesting point in that you support LeBron and Nike but don't you think that because they tried to confiscate the video that it's getting so much more press than it deserves? What player HASN'T been dunked on? The best shot blockers in the NBA were the ones that you always see get posterized because they are willing to give it their all every chance they get and try to get that block even if they knew they were going to be inches too short and fractions of seconds away....

Binary Basketball : Chris Bosh says he will be a free agent in 2010

I would easily take Wade and Bosh over LeBron. In fact, Wade and Bosh would probably be a one of the best 1-2 punches in the NBA.

Binary Basketball : The Role of the Point Guard in Today's NBA Era

Yeah, I should have mentioned Chauncey. I think of this year, he was the best performing point guard as I talked about in the Best Point Guard of this Year Thread on the Forum http://www.binarybasketball.com/forums/showthread... The goal of this article wasn't to talk about the best point guards so when I decided to come up with a short list I left some names out...

Binary Basketball : Defense Wins Championships - Give Me a Break

I think that if a team is going to focus on one aspect, be it defense or offense, they must be able execute their game plan really, really well. Otherwise, it's not gonna work. If you plan to use both, you should likely be top 7 and more likely top 5 in each category. The stats prove that it's tough to win a championship but they also prove that multiple methods do exist. With 99% of the population religiously believing that defense wins championships, I think these stats should prove that it's not the case. Obviously defense is a big part of a team's success but that's not the angle I wanted to go with this article.

Binary Basketball : Phoenix Suns 2009 NBA Draft Options with the 14th Pick

Hmm... Now that you mention it, it sounds familiar but that's probably just because you mentioned it... Still, good to know. They might actually use em this year... Who knows.

Ok, to be honest, I just wanted to link back to that article... It was good... I really don't think Budinger gets drafted that high. Honestly, I don't think he's NBA ready... He's got the shot, but he doesn't have the moves... He'll be eaten alive in the NBA and thre is no way the Suns should pick him up unless it's in the 2nd round... I don't think we have a 2nd round pick though...

Binary Basketball : Dwight Howard Only Suspended One Game

I think Rondo should have been suspended. I\\\'m saying Howard should have been suspended for two because he was allowed to play the rest of the game. The rules state the player must leave the game following the foul. This is the playoffs, I can understand them not wanting Howard to be out for very long, but abiding by their mandatory rules is a must. If they are going to suspend 2 Suns players for crossing a line (literally) than elbowing somebody in the head should be one game plus the remainder of the game (1 + rest of game). When the officials neglect to follow the rules, they should then be enforced by the league.

Binary Basketball : The 2009 NBA Playoffs are Terrible and You Know It

Yeah, to be honest, the Nuggets can make it interesting but the likelihood of the anybody but the Lakers making it to the finals is pretty low. I also think the Nuggets battling the Mavs might actually get interesting. The Mavericks have been playing pretty nice lately as well. For that series, I'm not counting the Nuggets as clear favorites. Not by a long shot.

Yeah, Bill Simmons is kind of a love him or hate him guy but I find that as far as basketball commentators, writers, analysts, or anybody whose opinion becomes public, is usually both loved and hated. I actually enjoy his articles. I don't follow him very much but if i hear he has written about something that might be interesting, i'll take a gander. I really like the article he wrote on the end of the SSOL Suns.
