Mr. Moriarty's extraodinarily honest and moving story speaks for many of us stubborn conservatives who endured years of progressive indoctrination-whether through shock therapy, 'talk therapy' or just the 'help' of well meaning friends. When I think of the time (and money!!) wasted listening to people tell me how much happier and better I'd be if I only became more like them, and give up my anachronistic ideas about Christ and the sacredness of life and the greatness of our country. My biggest 'breakthrough' came when I stopped being depressed and started getting pissed at all the progressive bullying. And thanks to Mr. Moriarty and his 'gentle readers', I've discovered there are more than a few folks out there like me who see through the hypocrisy and reject the stupidity.

Reading this insightful article and the many wonderful comments it inspired literally made my heart pound!! Like many, I have had deep concerns about the progressive leanings of Catholic Church, especially in America, but my own personal experience as a Catholic has given me even greater cause for hope. We survived the disastrous aftermath of the much-misinterpreted Second Vatican Coucil; the generation that embraced Liberation Theology is on the wane, and younger generations of Catholics, inspired by John Paul II, have returned to the traditional teachings of the faith. They, along with older conservative Catholics (who recognize the errors of their liberal youth!) are slowly but surely reclaiming their parishes from the progressives. Out Holy Father has been attacked by the media since he was elected Pope; he is a brilliant man whose heart is firmly planted in Christian doctrine and he will NEVER allow the Church to surrender its fundamental belief in the sacredness of human life! God is the source of our dignity and value as human persons, and as long as we hold on to this truth, communism, progressivism, even the unholy 'law of the land', Roe v. Wade, will never claim the victory.

I haven't seen the film and don't intend to; I don't care for Adam Sandler or David Spade. But I do have a question- if the film is about family and friendship and patriotism, then why does the TV trailer focus on scenes of overgrown juveniles peeing in a swimming pool and ogling a young girl's butt? What audience are they trying to appeal to?

I agree that the label 'pro-choice' is a misnomer; it should be called what it is- 'anti-life'. Your argument, though 'logical' to you, corrupts human ethics at its most basic level. Human beings and human bodies are not things, and their rights-including the right to do what one wants with one's body-should never be equated with 'property rights'. That is why the choice should not be the mother's, it should be the unborn child's; it is their life, after all, that is at stake.
