KOMO - Seattle, WA : Schrammie: Squeamish parents need to be more involved in child\'s sex education | Ken Schram | Seatt

Ummm...no. They were not supposed to be "taught" this part yet. It wasn't part of the approved curriculum. Yes, a kid asked a question. Does that mean ALL the rest of the kids are wondering the same question? Probably a few, but not all. A more "relevant" question might be, why is the principal teaching sex ed? Does that seem odd to anyone else? (My experiences in education - usually the school nurse or current teacher(s) of that age group cover this instruction). I like both of those options since it keeps the topic "factual" if nurse is presenting and if current teachers cover the topic, they know the best phrasing that will connect with the kids without being over-their-heads or too graphic.

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Wash. Senate unanimously passes Blue Alert bill | Local & Regional | Seattle News, Weather, Sports,

This will utilize the existing infastructure including media, but also DOT digital reader boards, and other resources that the Amber alert bill uses as well. If someone's willing to kill or seriously injure an officer, they're a loose cannon that we all need to be aware of and apprehend as soon as possible.

Ok...if I understood the newscast correctly, Vasser was a parent chaperone on the trip as well as was the father who works for DOC... My question - How, in the world, did Vasser pass backround check for parent volunteers and why didn't the school catch the criminal history????

Ed Murray - that's bull!!! The Gov. is not/did not ask you to come up with a budget deal in 2-3 weeks! She notified all of you lawmakers over 2 months ago that this special session - with the revised budget as its focus- needed to happen in December. That means if you'd gotten your butt in gear and collaborated with other lawmakers, you'd have had an entire THREE months to work on this. Stop the jockeying for position and get to work!!!

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Coroner: Unclaimed bodies costing taxpayers thousands | Local & Regional | Seattle News, Weather, Sp

I don't know if any of the unclaimed are veterans, so perhaps this doesn't apply but....Just last month in Lewis County, a group of concerned citizens paid for and escorted multiple veterans' remains up to Mt. Tahoma for proper burial. If any of Benton Co.'s are vets, perhaps the coroner should try to partner with local American Legion, VFWs, etc. Might not help out with the cost of cremation much, but at least the remains wouldn't continue to be stored at the Coroner's office and they'd be treated with some dignity in final resting place.

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Prosecutor: No charges in 1998 homicide of state trooper | Local & Regional | Seattle News, Weather,

No. Time to investigate the incompetence of the LCSO from so many years ago....And Terry Wilson, former coroner, for stalling and impeding the investigation for over a decade. THAT is what caused the inability to prosecute...the case is full of holes and missing evidence that would create a large amount of reasonable doubt. Jon's hands are tied at this point.

Perhaps 13 years ago, the systemic prejudice did exist. But not prosecuting now has much more to do with being able to present a viable prosecutorial case. And with all the screw ups that occurred all those years ago (and in subsequent yrs), I don't think with the current evidence a strong case is possible. The inquest jury didn't have to find "beyond a reasonable doubt" that the Reynolds men were guilty, just who they believed responsible. There is a difference. Great if they are actually innocent, not so much if they are the murderers. I think KatieMcC probably nailed the reasoning best - that if new clear evidence of guilt comes to light - the prosecutor will still be able to charge instead of hands being tied due to double jeopardy.

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Stocks plunge after U.S. hiring dries up in August | Business | Seattle News, Weather, Sports, Break

Other news reports I heard today had private sector job hirings up, while gov't jobs "dried" up. Isn't that what the public's been asking for? smaller gov't. We can't have it both ways! The good news - private sector hired! And as far as Aug. hours worked and $ earned numbers...um...this is one of the highest vacation months. Couldn't something so simple as "more people on vacation" create a false picture of less earnings when really many were just out for their last "hurrah" before school, fall and the normal routine returns?!

REALLY??! 40 feet is about 13 yards...if the punk accelerated quickly, you'd be that far by the time your body knew to let go and you fell. Troopers deal with punks and drunks like this all the time and often have to try to open doors because the driver is too intoxicated to figure out how to open their own door.

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Are kids safer in the car with mom and dad or their grandparents? | Seattle News, Weather, Sports, B

Wow! My story is the complete opposite. My mom once said, " Ok, I have to remember I'm driving. I'm so used to being the passenger," as she walked out the door with my two sweet girls buckled up in her back seat. My dad? Yikes! Not a chance he's safer than we are. And my in-laws? Refused to buckle my oldest up properly because "mom-in-law" knew that it didn't really matter cause " we're only going a few miles"! Argh! I'm so glad my kids are old enough now to speak up for themselves and know they can tell their grandparents differently without fear that they'll get in trouble for "back talking".
