Big Hollywood : Davy Jones of The Monkees Dies at 66

The Monkeys were a little too "teeny-bopper" for me at my age back in the day (being cynical was the fashion), but they were a guilty pleasure! Loved the pure joy of their music.

Big Hollywood : Eastwood on Chrysler Ad: Actor 'Surprised' People Interpreting It for Partisan Purposes

If he was "stunned" by the ad he should have disavowed it instead of denying the obvious. I never though Eastwood was a weasel-worder, never thought he was a fool, and I never thought he would throw his support behind these kinds of people. So all-in-all, I am very confused by this. Edit: Perhaps he is constrained by his contract with Chrysler so can't say much of anything else.

Big Hollywood : Eastwood's Chrysler Super Bowl Ad a Nod to Obama?

Big Hollywood : Consequences Rule: GOP Lets Hollywood Twist in the Wind on SOPA

Connections: Just saw Clint Eastwood's Changling. One of the messages of that film was the dire consequences of a system where someone could be committed to a sanitarium solely on the basis of a letter from a police captain. No due process. SOPA is ("was", I hope) another example of "no due process". (See you Section-12ers in Room 18!)

Big Hollywood : Why Haunted House Films Can't Scare Us Anymore

Makes me think of a couple of my favorite old haunted house movies. How about 1961's The Innocents? Perhaps it is less haunted house and more haunted *inhabitants* of house. The beauty of the movie is that you are never sure of exactly what is happening. Then of course there is 1932's The Old Dark House by James Whale, he of Frankenstein and, better yet, Bride of Frankenstein fame. Not all that scary but a delight to watch. "Please excuse the flickering lights. We make our own electricity here --- and we're not very good at it. Have another potato, and some more gin."

Big Hollywood : Audiences Share Some Blame in Hollywood's Decline

When I go to a movie (well, when I used to go -- haven't been in a long time) I go to be entertained, not to provide charitable contributions, moral support, or a policing service. If the industry can't get its act together without me, they are not trying hard enough.

Big Hollywood : The Curious Case of Christoph Waltz

I'm another that was blown away by the opening if IB, I have remarked more than once that it was worth the price of admission even if the movie ended there. Waltz was amazing, but you could also see Tarantino shine through. His choice of opening music was beyond brilliant: "The green leaves of summer are calling me home". An idyllic intro to emotional abuse and physical violence. Another Waltz scene worth the price of admission all on its own: In the restaurant ordering (for Shoshanna) milk to drink and cream for the strudel. Somehow Waltz made this absolutely terrifying. You can't understand if you haven't seen the movie. It was an unacknowledged verbal battle right below the surface.

Another thing I'd try is Google. Their main business is really advertising. Whatever, it will probably involve $$$!.
