I have many muslim friends who are no different than me, thankfully the next generation of Indian muslims are nothing like thier counterparts in the Islamic countries.
The media and intelligentsia is for the last few decades are driving home the point that all religions are equal and it is begining to show results.

I think the reason Jesus is considered as a prohphet in islam is more political than factual, muslims would like you to believe that by following islam you are following the same religion albeit through a more refined version. (Bible has been corrupted by man and koran is the true word of god. Even though 3 pages of the koran are missing because a goat ate it and dont even get me started on the satanic verses)
Since the poplulation and strength of Christianity is more than islam, they have taken a softer stand against Christanity and they are not reffered as Infidels or Kaffirs, instead they are called misguided and confused.
From what I understand Jesus is regarded as son of god like every other human being and equal in the eye of god, however muhammad was favourite of god and noone is even comparable to him.
So in essence Jesus was a lower prophet compared to mr mohammaed.
I might be wrong in anything I have written, but this is the impression I have been give in all my conversation with followers of Islam (yes it was tough to keep a stright face while listening).

Only islam converted people by force, chances are that one of your forefathers was made to kneel on the ground and watch his relative raped and beheaded one by one before he gave in and join the mighty religion of Islam.
