I thought it was kind of funny how Ashton Holmes (the not-so-wimpy son) was actually 27 years old at the time this movie came out.

Uh, no. There are many stupid things about this movie, but minor errors in geography generally deserve a pass.

Unless you're one of those guys that posts "Goofs" entries on IMDB like this:

"Errors in geography: OMG I live in Springfield USA where they filmed this and they show a car going the wrong way down Finkelbean Street when everybody knows that Finkelbean Street is one-way LOL morons"

They're not morons because, in this case, NOBODY CARES.

Er, yes, I understand the statistical significance quite well. If you had ever read a book on statistics, read a book, or known someone that's ever read a book, you'd know that the difference in confidence between 30M and 300M is very, very, very, very small. Certainly a literally microscopic fraction of the 1.3% difference in percentage. If you were talking about comparing the U.S. to a nation that had 10,000 people, you might have a point.

And how any of this SUPPORTS your argument is beyond me.

All I have to say in response to this is WOW. I'm going to print this out and get it framed on my mantle.

And send a copy to your third-grade math teacher.

Let me see if I follow your reasoning here. Canada's life expectancy is, indeed, higher than the U.S., and by a statistically significant amount. But ha ha ha CANADA SUCKS!!! ZING!

Four of your posts actually confirmed what I said originally.

Canadian health care isn't perfect. No one's is. It's a tough problem. But if you post any news article about how Canadian health care sucks so bad, I can just point to the life expectancy and infant mortality statistics.

Anecdotal evidence doesn't work, either. There are undoubtedly many stories about Canadians crossing the border for health care, dying while waiting on long waiting lists, etc. But for each of those stories, there's at least one story about HMOs refusing to pay for necessary treatment, dropping people for "pre-existing conditions", putting families in ungodly amounts of debt, being basically inaccessible to a large percentage of the country...

"In that limited sample, Canada was decidedly middle of the pack."

Well, I guess you sure told me!

"At the other end of the spectrum, the Canadian rate is less than one-third that of Turkey and the United States, which have, respectively, the first and second highest murder rates among the 15 nations."

Wait a second...

I...don't get it?

According to your post, 11.4% of Canada (meaning, that percentage of PEOPLE LIVING IN CANADA) is below the poverty line.

According to your post, 12.5% of the U.S. (meaning, PEOPLE LIVING IN THE U.S.) is below the poverty line.

The fact that Canada has a smaller population is relevant how? Do you honestly not understand how numbers work?

If you expected any answer to this other than "because it gets really really cold more than 100 miles from the U.S. border", you're really not very bright.

And then they asked you who you supported for Canadian PM, and you said...
