Maybe I should have included a little warning at the bottom letting people know I was joking. I often goof around with the kids who are misbehaving, telling them that if they don't stop, I'm going to walk across class and jump-kick them. Obviously I'd never jump-kick a kid (although I would pay another student to) and I'd never call a student a whale or a bastard. The kid who actually got deported broke my heart. I knew he wanted to get into our culinary arts program, so after the incident and before he was arrested I made phone calls to the various colleges here with good programs and had people come in to talk to him about staying in school so he could attend there. Being Hispanic, I had numerous people talk to him about the various scholarship opportunities too. I was pretty sad to see him blow his opportunities and it still keeps me up at night. This was all done tongue-and-cheek. I don't think of my students as idiots or whales, and I DO care about them or I wouldn't be doing this. I just wanted to bring up typical teacher stories and have some fun with it. I would never talk to students this way, obviously.
