Thanks. I think Hamlet's influence is pretty cool too.

I don't really think of Hamlet as shallow.... but it's arguable, I suppose with that reasoning. One of the mirrors cracked because Hamlet shot Polonius through it, but the other mirrors cracked evidently at the same time without such good reasoning.

It made me very happy, since it fits perfectly into my Hamlet-centered idea that Shakespeare influences both high and low culture... this counts as High Culture to me.

The book you were asking about is due tomorrow, so I think I'll turn it in today, and the Library should process it pretty quickly.

Sounds like you have a nice focused thesis and support.

Sounds good. Actually, your thesis sounds rather like the conclusion I have in my rough draft for my hub (it's not ready to post yet, and I don't have time to work on it until this afternoon). But, I definitely agree that people can use Shakespeare for inspiration and it doesn't harm Shakespeare, and can be of benefit to all parties involved (the author, reader, the new work, and Shakespeare's work).

Makes sense, but the other ideas are fun.

Yeah, I wondered why the mirror in the hall was broken when it was the mirror in his mother's room that he shot. The mirror that Claudius is looking into in that picture up there was another mirror, just a little square one downstairs where he talked to Hamlet about where Polonius's body was.

I wouldn't say that Ophelia didn't listen to her brother and father. She at least obeyed her father in stopping communications with Hamlet.

Some ideas of themes or conflicts between ideas that are titles of articles I looked at the other night are Fate vs. Grace and "The Problematic Relationship between Reason and Emotion in Hamlet". So I guess these are philosophical themes, and I don't know how much you'd want to go into these, but they're interesting. You probably wouldn't want to talk too much about the issue of suicide, which shows up in Hamlet.
