I suppose a pitch could go something like this:

The Nightrunner series by Lynn Flewelling begins with Luck in the Shadows - a tale of magic, mystery and political intrigue. The story follows a clever, dashing thief and his young apprentice while they navigate a complex world of wizards, queens and dark magic. Together they must attempt to uncover a conspiracy which could threaten the existence of everything they hold dear.

Wow... that was dramatic. I suck at writing, despite my English degree. I couldn't think of a way to bring in the other books without spoiling. I'll have to reflect on that. Also, re: your rot13:

I would love to see Mark read the Nightrunner series by Lynn Flewelling because... well, they are awesome and written by a very talented lady who deserves to be much more famous than she is. Does anybody know if Mark has read them already?

The books start with Luck in the Shadows, and they're Fantasy/Adventure-type stories with lots of political intrigue and a nicely diverse cast of characters. I particularly love the treatment of women and LGBT characters (also, the treatment of sexuality in general) in the Nightrunner universe.

I'm not sure how best to summarize the books without spoilers, though. Has anybody else read these? Someone with more writing talent than me? :)

Hi, fellow Mark Reads/Watches peeps! Long time no post!

So, I know there is a tiny overlap of Mark's people and people who follow a lovely lady called Cleolinda over on livejournal. I just wanted to point out this bit of awesomeness: a new Movies in Fifteen Minutes! Prometheus: http://m15m.livejournal.com/23209.html

Obviously, if you are planning to see the movie, DO NOT CLICK, because massive spoilers abound. It is a hilarious read, though, particularly if you've seen the movie and can appreciate the sheer brilliance of a moment like this (rot13 for Prometheus spoilers):

OOH OOH! NUMBER 5!!

It's from the Enchanted Forest Chronicles by Patricia C. Wrede, right? The first one, "Dealing With Dragons." GOD I LOVE THOSE BOOKS. I have the boxed set.

What the actual hell? Who on the forums is saying anything that insinuates they consider Xander worse than Angelus? Answer: Nobody. This person is just.. creating arguments out of thin air.

Okay, I'll bite.. what's the deal on LJ? Or is it too depressing/awful to share with everybody? *cringe*

Yeah, comments like that have been coming from her a lot, and every time I wince. She's gonna need some hugs on Monday. :( All the sadness.

As a Xander fan, I am definitely disappointed with this episode. :( I wish that some genuine character growth HAD happened, but it's another of those convenient blank slate things where everything is fine at the end and no one remembers in the next episode. Granted, the next episode is "Passion," so Xander's issues are not really the important thing there.

I think if there had been actual consequences, or if the treatment of the subject had been better, I would like this episode more. I don't hate it, but there just isn't anything there for me to be truly happy for. There are definitely better Xander episodes in the run of this show.
