Cliff Kirkpatrick : Cliff: Arizona fallout

I think the officials missed calls is more of just across the board terribleness of PAC10 officiating. I've seen equally horrendous calls in other PAC10 games. Every game Jay Stricker referees, there is numerous missed calls. I will say the booth reviews are really bad. They need to institute the NFL rule of 1 minute to look, if they can't find anything then the call stands. Of course that doesn't stop pure incompetence.

Cliff Kirkpatrick : Cliff: McCants must step up

Reading between the lines of his answers, it's all mental for him. He needs to get off on a good start. It seems like if he doesn't do well, he doesn't shake it off. He never really recovered from the first fumble at Stanford two years ago. I like him a lot, and he's the kind of guy you root for. Hopefully this will be his breakout year that's been expected of him.

Cliff Kirkpatrick : Cliff: Early Day 3 notes

Hekker has got a lot to work on to be considered a good punter. From my point of view, he's got good hang time, but no consistency in distance. I agree, he did benefit from good bounces (which a punter can control at times). The potential is there but he's only really had one good game (sun bowl). Everything else has been average or plain terrible (civil war and Lv bowl).

Cliff Kirkpatrick : Cliff: Big recruiting update

Riley has the ability to get big time recruits (Phillips, Akuna). We need to be beating out other Pac 10 programs for recruits not low D1 programs. Otherwise OSU risks becoming WSU. A few great years on the field but not being able to capitalize on that success in recruiting leads to well........

I think a better way of evaluating is who's offered the kids. If the big time programs have offered and the kid chooses OSU, it's a good sign. Beating out Eastern Kentucky and North Texas isn't something to get excited about.

9/4? That game is at TCU. 445 start. For the Louisville game on 9/18, I'm guessing a 330 start, based on the pac 10's announcement, looks like all the 1230 and 730 slots are full. http://www.pac-10.org/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/05...

Cliff Kirkpatrick : Cliff: RB outlook

I hope McCants can fulfill his potential. He had a awesome TD run two years ago down at UCLA. He hit the hole hard and broke away clean for the TD. Hopefully we can see some of that this year. This is probably his last chance before he gets relegated to the back of the line so the young guys can get reps. His ball security is a huge issue.

I was listening to the game and maybe I missed it, but why did Matt Boyd stay in the game as a DH? Is there some kind of special rule in college baseball about the pitcher/DH batting? I assumed the DH was lost when Boyd left the game.

Cliff, What was the policy that was implemented around the 04/05 season when things got crazy? I recall Bob D announcing a policy for student athletes and they would be suspended/dismissed if they reached certain criteria. Is that still in effect?

What the heck? Didn't Dunn already have an AA degree? Last year's story was that he'd have 3 to play 2. Forget that guy. Related q, When does a recruit need to have his academics in order? Can they take comm college classes in the summer to make up for poor HS grades?

Cliff Kirkpatrick : Cliff: Riley staying at OSU

Does it include any money for assistants? Doesn't seem like Riley would demand more money for himself because of the USC job, but maybe make life better for his assistants. Also if any of them leave (I foresee Langsdorf as a HC at a BCS school(probably in the WAC) in 4 yrs or so), he can still afford quality assistants to come in.

Cliff Kirkpatrick : Cliff: Offseason football, Riley

I agree with angry beaver on his points. Riley essentially has a lifetime contract already and is unlikely to leave. And since the athletic dept is already strapped for cash, giving Riley more money doesn't help their financial situation. I am foreseeing more money espn games in the near future which more likely than not a negative impact to our chances at a run to the top. but hopefully these rumors can be leveraged properly into benefiting the program as a whole. best comment i saw on another board referring to Riley's rep and if he went to SC "how is he going to develop players there? turn 4 and 5 star recruits into 6 and 7 stars?" haha.
