I think I am also a "victim" of these same pranksters in Tualatin. They have been repeatedly putting a for sale sign in my yard for several weeks. The sign is from a property across the street. The first time or two, its mildly amusing, then it gets annoying, then aggrivating. After 8 or 9 times you want to catch them.

I think they also have broken glass in the street in front of my house and burned up some "lost animal" postings on a nearby mailbox. A neighbor two doors down has had repeated TP rollings--the common thread on these is that we don't have kids of our own ( like you might expect) and don't know who or why--they appear random. But they consistenly do the same thing over and over to each victim.

It is true that they have done no real harm, and I agree that there should be no harsh punishment, but they DO NEED to be caught, and threatened with those things. When I was 12 or so, a friend and I were ringing doorbells and running--we thought we were really clever till a guy caught us by the arm and told us he had called the police. We begged and begged to be let go, and he said he would if we would knock it off. We promised and he let us go. I figured out that he never really called the police, but I never did it again. Just being caught was enough to show me how stupid it was. Who knows, he might have saved me from moving on to more destructive things.

One odd thing about all this is how weird it makes you feel to know that some unknown person is targeting you for a prank. It makes you feel vulnerable and some basic protective instinct pops up and makes you want to do something. So I totally understand the video installation--I seriously was shopping myself!

Anyway, those folks who say "let kids be kids", wait until it happens to you to say that.
