West Ham Till I Die : In Conversation With David Sullivan (Part 4): "Benni McCarthy Cost Us £7 Million"

I actually felt physically sick when Jarvis scored their third goal. I never actually rated Zola during his time with us. I could see that he was working wonders with Cole and that he had a good relationship with the players, but under him we were a disaster. If it adn't been for the three teams that actually went down, we would have. I jumped for joy when he went. There is also some truth to the theory that Steve Clarke was his downfall...

I have always stood by the attitude that Avram was a nice guy, but not a good manager. Somethings just seem to go wrong at our club, we get all the bad luck. Avram did remarkably well with Chelsea and Portsmouth, whatever anyone says, and i was glad when he was appointed. That opinion has now changed, obviously. Allardyce is a manager who I have always respected. He's old fashioned, but it's fashionable. Give him two more years to stabilse us or more, ten get Di Canio in.

Mate please get off Braderz's back. He was given a job and he done it well! If you've read the previous instalments of this article then you would realise tat gossip was flying about and no one ever really knows what's going on. I never saw you coming up with any news...

he has a very laid back attitude towards signings, "What will be, will be" kinda attitude. I don't particularly trust that approach as that could easily back fire and means we don't grab the bull it's horns! This is the attitude that could get us in trouble in future. You've got to wonder if maybe DS pushed abit harder, we might have got Tevez, and possibly even Torres (who personally I'm not a massive fan of). Still, I'm over the moon that a chairman agreed to this, I can't think of another chairman who would! Massive thanks Iain for this! I never actually thought he would go into some much detail. I expected to get the old cliche and obvious somewhat press conference answers, but now I've seen this, I'm rgretting not putting my questions forward! Just for the sake of it, it would have been "What the hell happened with Diamanti?!!" I almost cried when he left (yes I did love him that much, I saw a new Di Canio in him!). I'm hoping that question gets asked in the future installments, but I won't hold me breath...

I actually find it such a shame that Nolan seems to be our biggest burden. He went off today and I wasn't phased one bit, in fact I was happy if anything! The man is obviously a great captain but he's looking more like a league 2 player than a premier league standard player at the moment. In fact, since he joined! Maybe this is a blessing in disguise. It shouldn't be, due to how important Nolan should be looked at in the team. I hope Noble gets the captains armband, he deserves it.

Vaz te, although I've never rated him, has played as a winger for Barnsle this season and scored ten goals. We don't need many more midfielders but we have signed a highly rated youngster from United. Sordell has gone to Bolton, Cardiff wouldn't sell their best player to fellow promotion rivals, but Kebe maybe you have a point. Anyway, we won, cheer up! :)

It is working for us whatever style we play, so I back it up. Pose a question to you Tom? Would you want to play free-flowing football whatever the cost just because "it's the West Ham way", or would you like us to actually progress by any means necessary (I don't mean being thuggish I just mean style of play).

Absolutely brilliant result! Can you hear the millwank sing, I cant hear a fuckin' thing! Nolan deserved to get sent-off, you cannot go in two-footed! And whatever anyone says, it worked out better for us, he's been a drag on the team for quite some time! Winston Churchill deserves massive credit for a well taken, cool calm and controlled winner (and yes faubert did foul Forde, but who cares?!) Sam Allerdyce is the best maanger we've had since Pardew or even before that! Oh, and Vaz Te looked up for it as well (needs to get his hair cut though...)
