Thanks, Paula. I also enjoyed the fact that emotion can be acknowledged as part of our decision-making process and that we don't have to pretend it doesn't exist!

Hi Asgar
It sounds like you have a lot of great experience and skills. You are right. Technology is so important as is social media so if you can use them to set your skills apart from those of others, and combine it with social enterprise experience, you should have a pretty good niche all set up! Best of luck.

Hi Alex
Salary is before taxes or deductions, same as with an employer.
Thanks for your question!

This is a good rule of thumb. However, it is not evidence based. It is worth it to go through the exercise of determining actual costs to run your business as well as desired salary to make sure that you are charging enough to make ends meet. Thanks for your comment!

Thanks for your comments! It is scary to start anew business but I think the challenge is worth the personal reward you get from being your own boss. We all want to be in control of our own destinies—this is one small way to do that.

This is an excellent question! The basic format and outline of a proposal does not change even if you have no RFP to respond to but the overall tone is a little less formal and you probably don't need as much detail. There is a sample letter proposal in Appendix 7 (p 263) of my book.

Good to hear. A formula takes some of the pricing issues off the table, that’s for sure. Glad it is useful.

Hi there
That's the point of this discussion. Consulting is not for everyone and you need to know what you are getting into. If it is for you, great. If you are doubtful, good to find out now!
Thanks for your comment.

A good way would be to check out business programs in your area or on line. Look for the Certified Management Consultants website in your country and see what courses and webinars are offered. Find out some consultants in your area and do information interviews with them. These are some ways you can find out if consulting is for you. Thanks for your inquiry.
