Between active & reserves, I spent 30 years in the Navy, and I've seen how tough it can be for a sailor that is ostracized. I think it will work on the "Boomers" (ballistic missile subs) because they have enough berthing space so that the females could have their own berthing and hygeine facility. It would not work on an attack boat like my son serves on for that reason. It defeinitely wouldn't work on the boat I served on 30 years ago because mine was much smaller than modern boats. The Navy doesn't mention above that they have considerable problems with ...um..."fraternization" on surface ships that females are serving on. It would be compounded on a submarine which is a much smaller environment. I hope it works well for those women wanting to serve on the boats. It's not an easy life.
