CCUC Worship Arts : For Yours is the Kingdom and the Power and the Glory Forever. Amen.

I never knew that extra bit until praying it in a non-Catholic church. When I learned it in a Catholic church (way back when I was a child), it just ended, ". . . deliver us from evil. Amen."

CCUC Worship Arts : Easter Sunday Worship 04-04-2010

Oh, and as a reminder, when moving music stands back to make room for Pastor Green, keep it facing the same direction (paper towards back of stage) instead of turning it around. Just be conscious of it because the paper reflects a lot of light. In fact, all things white, whether clothing or paper, tend to attract a lot of attention and can detract from the worship if it becomes distracting. on another note, Nice job calling out lines, Bethanie.

CCUC Worship Arts : Sunday Worship 04-11-2010

The message was clear, easy to follow, thought-provoking, and challenging. It made me really ask, for what am I ready? It seemed the parts of the message were easier to follow when the slides didn't change too much because I found myself listening more than looking. The songs were good, but what drew me seriously into worship this Sunday was the scripture and prayer and quiet moments. Phil, please try to pronounce your consonants when singing. You have a deep voice and your speaking is clear, but your singing tends to be less discernible.

CCUC Worship Arts : Good Friday Service 04-02-2010

I thought the monologues were a nice change of pace and helped convey the events of the day in another light. It was good to see the different points of view and kind of be in the shoes of Judas and then in those of the centurion. Great job with the preparations and deliverance of the monologues!

I liked how Hans told people to put down their bulletins at the beginning of the morning. Everyone sounds wonderful. Hans, you may want to check your phrasing for some songs. Charissa and Nicky, it's a delight hearing you guys play. I really liked the plucking at the beginning of Always Forever (though I didn't notice it on Sunday, but now hear it in the recording). The songs were very relevant to the message.

The Holy Spirit was indeed present during service this morning. The songs were well thought out and introduced in a way that gave the songs more meaning than just words set to a tune. I also thought the sermon was good, full of truth, challenging, and practical. It was delivered not harshly, but with honest love.

I don't have comments on the music because I was paying less attention to it. At least that means nothing distracted me about the music that pulled me away from worshiping, which is a good thing. "Isn't He" may have had much more power and impact if there was a scriptural introduction or reading before it that relates to why God is beautiful and wonderful.

CCUC Worship Arts : The old is leaving, the new is coming

This year: I have been blessed by being able to step off the stage freely and see so many others step up to lead worship—and even in new ways (e.g. choirs, new instruments)! I have been blessed by hearts all for God. I've also been blessed and excited about the formation of our drama and the growth of our A/V team. The prospect of the visual arts like photography for WAM is also exciting. Improvement suggestion: I agree with Phil that integration of scripture with worship is needed. It's done on occasion, but has room to become a habit. I also wonder what ways the team can come together and bless each other through love and fellowship. The team is always getting larger and larger, so team unity may need more intention. God has grown my understanding of worship: by humbling and challenging me. I know I'm just an OK singer, rather run-of-the-mill. However, similar to what Phil explains about exteriors not mattering to God, He has shown me that exteriors are affected by the heart. God has humbled me in that even though I'm not a great singer, He can still be glorified by the thoughts and sounds I offer up to Him in worship. I've also been challenged by the knowledge of knowing my vocal limitations and the fact that it really does need a workout to be better. I'm not saying I want to be a great singer, but when faced with leading a congregation in worship, things like not enough breath support or being sharp or flat can be distracting and draw attention to the singer instead of toward God. I definitely do not want to be a distraction... but yet, even in our imperfections, may God be glorified!

That's awesome. I had no idea that group existed! I've added the link to the list of links under CCUC. I think that tagging photos is a good idea too. Who (can be a small group of people) can come up with guidelines as to what images would be good for ccuc-wam? Great ideas, Mike!

Hi. I think this is a great idea. I also wonder... if maybe another group could be started for this year to submit photos about our church. CCUC will be celebrating 95 years in 2010 and it would be great if we could have some nice photojournalistic images to use in whatever celebration things that might be created. Just an idea! Thanks!

I think it's amazing how Arnold memorizes so much. I think you did a great job with song introductions and the talking in between songs. It was helpful for being at the right mindset for each song. Michelle, good job. I heard several positive comments on your singing. Keep up the good work. Again, it was encouraging to see everyone worshiping with their whole self. Randy, even without a mic, it was great to see you singing and engaged.

This week, everything was powerful. I truly felt God's presence and was made fully aware of Him. The songs of response were tied well into the sermon and the missions sharing. I wish I wrote this earlier so I could remember more thoughts on it. OH! yes!! and the entire team was so fully engaged in worshiping, it was evident. even the back row.

Jason, you've done a great job in leading and I am rejoicing in the Lord for how He has gifted you and is using your gift. Your passion, excitement, and dedication are all so contagious and the joy with which you serve is evident. Thank you. Thanks to all who participated in the drama and even learned how to work the lights on such short notice. This may be a learning point, though. When we have dramas in the future, we should definitely be scheduling an extra person in the booth for lighting. It really was so tied to the message and enhanced the illustration in our minds when Dr. Green was talking about the gifts God has given us. I also enjoyed how well the props were prepared and thought out. All your practice paid off because I was focusing on the message of the drama and not 'how things were being done'.

This was so spot on. This passage emphasized the importance for us to know God personally and to be filled with His Spirit before any expression of worship and telling of His Word can be done. So spot on.

I agree with everyone. Winnie and Michelle, great job on My Heart Your Home!!! Tony, I really liked that you had us sit down and meditate on that song. I think it actually made it much more effective than if we were to stay in the same posture singing the song as all the ones before it.

Hey all, I haven't been in service for a couple weeks. This was a great service to come back to. Phil - your intro to 'Stronger' was totally spot on. it directed hearts and minds toward the person of God and His sacrifice. It definitely did not belabor "this is a new song. yeah, sing this new song with us, if you can't get it, don't worry, join in when you're comfortable, because this is a new song..." Thank you for not doing that. One minor idea for a different transition: maybe instead of ending intro with "invite you to sing this new song with us", maybe "invite you to sing about God's strength and sacrifice with us" (not in those words, i'm not as elegant. But you get the gist.) but like I said, so minor. Intro was great. I thought the instrumental breaks were used with great effect in "stronger" and "come to my rescue". great dynamic. Ladies - great job. loved the layers and absolutely loved the harmonies in "Reign in Us". Good job, Tiff! Posture - Overall, good job. we're really starting to get there. Kim, your mind was on worshipping God during the songs and it showed. You speak and praise with your hands and gestures you use enhance and emphasize phrases and words in the songs. However, since you were standing within arms length of two other people, holding your arm straight out to the side doesn't quite work. You're singing to God, but your hand/arm looks like it's gesturing toward Phil. I get your intention, other Christians may get your intention (or maybe not? who knows), but I am not sure non-Christians would understand. Try to gesture up or bend your arm (as you sometimes did) so it doesn't look like you're patting someone's back or inadvertantly directing attention toward another person on stage. (this is something we should all be aware of.) Tiff, I am not sure if you were closing your eyes and looking down or if you were looking at the music stand. Please try to lift your eyes once in a while to engage the congregation (whether you look up toward God or up at the people). You did a much better job with that in "Reign in Us"-- maybe because it was a more meditative song? or you knew the song better? I'm not sure. Randy, great job on posture for "Reign in Us" also. Spreading your arms out worked for you because you had tons of room. =) There was one point in that song that all of you were leading all of us upward. It became seamless. To God be the glory! However, one note: Our job is to model and lead, so when the leader opens up in prayer, please do not flip papers and look like you are not praying or shuffling your feet looking like you're waiting for it to 'start'. It looks messy. Once the leader opens their mouth and speaks into the mic, it has begun. If this means you get upstairs half a minute later because you need to put your music in order after practice, so be it. If the song order was changed, please try to do so quickly and then join the leader. If the leader is leading and others on stage are not following, it sends mixed messages to the congregation. Leader, maybe look around before beginning to make sure everyone's ready.

I actually did like that you were not reading off a paper. It made me connect with you better like you were actually addressing the congregation in a personal way. Felt more real too. I thought it was cool how people got into 'You are Good'. It definitely was fun and celebratory.
