I guess I have read the articles a bit different then most of you. I have read the ARMY is sorry and may have made a mistake. But reading between the lines tells me, they are not admitting fault, merely apologizing. They have many possible reasons as to way the river acted different then previous years, ie, fuller tributaries, saturated ground, sand in the river and so on. The fact as it stands is, no one is sure what happened here, yet… And if the ARMY is telling the citizens the truth and did let out the same amount of water as previous years, then why is this different, something obviously changed. I like the idea of diverting water in to Lake Tapps, this seems to have been done numerous times in previous years. But again, reading the articles, it appears the infrastructure no longer supports that being done, that may also have something to do with the SALE of Lake Tapps, that’s my guess. I have read over and over again people saying this was a man made event, which is possible, the courts will decide that. But, I have got to tell ya, the Mud Mountain dam was made for a reason. The white river is a vigorous river and deposits an abundant of sediment every where it goes. If that Dam was not in existence, many and I mean many more homes and people would have been effected, and trust me, those who say the Town of Pacific is not in a “Flood plain” would be rethinking that. We have valleys for a reason folks, and just because our generations have not seen such events that caused the valleys to form, does not mean you wont. This is not the first or last time you will see this happen and they always seem to be the 100 or 500 year floods, every few years. Finally, if the ARMY did not advise of the water being released, they should have. It may not have changed the out come as it stands, but may have saved a few belongings.
