I also live in this neighborhood. Why is it the city's is sue if YOU get water in YOUR basement? I also get water in my basement after heavy rains, and keeping thinking, wow I should really pony up for a sump pump. Also, you purchased your house backing up to a city right of way, if you don't have a fence now, why aren't you concerned now? People are ALWAYS walking through there. Do you have a sidewalk in front of your house? I do, and I know if I leave my blinds open, or I am in my front yard then I am subjecting myself to the prowling eyes of society. Get a grip dude.

Yancey has a fenced in yard per the assessors site - I'm not sure exactly what his deal is. Also, the trail is already on google maps! :) So as far as I'm concerned it's already there.

GazetteOnline.com : Neighbors not happy with start of construction on CEMAR Trail

I think the issue is that Ms. Mostaert doesn't want the trail put there at all, not that she wants it done right. Also, what kind of crime has been increasing in the area in the past few years? I realize that "most hoodlums do [their] stuff at night when people are sleeping" but the point that I was trying to make is that this trail will simply NOT be bringing trouble into the neighborhood. Also, in regards to Hiawatha, the area I was specificially thinking about was off Boyson Rd. Thiher Dr specifically, which has a comparable home value to the homes in this neighborhood. So I am not sure what "lower income families equals more crime" was getting at. Looking at the bigger picture of the CEMAR trail it will end up further down by Coe, but even still. Why are you so convinced that a trail will bring people to this neighborhood when the DIRECT STREETS don't do that now?

Yes there are schools in the area, this path will actually very conviently connect the middle school to the elementary school. - and being there is an existing path AT the elementary school I don't see security being an issue. Rather this being used by parents who have students in both schools, or older siblings who need to walk to retrieve younger siblings. There are already street lights positioned at either end of the area, and I don't believe the existing trail is fully lit. There are designated parking lots already in other places along the trail. This is meant to connect two larger points, not to be a starting/stopping point.

This isn't happening on the trails in the area now, and the section in Hiawatha runs through a residential neigborhood, and the part of the trail that is adjacent to the interstate now backs up to a residential neighborhood. I disagree that this small new section of the trail will lead to big problems. While it seems like a long distance, the way this cuts through 29th to 20th is a VERY short distance.

If I am not mistaken they did - now whether or not these residents were living there at the time is not known. But is that really the city's fault? Also, I live in this neighborhood, and a bike trail will barely make a dent in the open space in question. I think it boils down to the fact that these residents recoginize this space as part of their yard when it is not.

No way, if less than savory people want to come into your neighborhood they sure aren't going to use a trail. Do you think they're going to walk down the trail with the tv they just stole from your house? Also, this will be all out in the open so it isn't like where it runs under bridges where people can feel somewhat seculeded. Also, where in the neighborhood is sewer backup an issue?

I agree - At least between 27th and 20th the thoroughfare there is so huge that it seems very unlikely that people will be tromping around in peoples yards anyways.

I'd be interested to know if any of these neighbors of mine have children? I think paving that thoroughfare is a great idea. Even if just for the neighborhood and not for the trail system. It will be a great way for parents who have children in both Arthur and Franklin elementary to have access to both schools - it also gives us another place to walk because there are more streets in the neighborhood without sidewalks than you would expect. My family and I walk our dog through there already (27th to 20th). I really see NO issue with this. Bringing the trail down to 20th will be no issue, as the neighborhood doesn't start to get sketchy until a few blocks past 19th. The consruction part of the phase might be a pain, but I'm sorry that what you percieved to be your land for so long isn't. And if you think people want to be rubernecking over your fence, you're wrong buddy. Stop hanging out in your city backyard nekkid.
