You have! I wasn't fishing for a compliment, just pointing out an observation. ...but I'll still take the compliment! :) And New Evermist hits the web tomorrow. ~P

All Things From My Brain : Why Podbean sucks & there'll probably not be a podcast this week

I used PayPal so it was much easier for me to leave them in the dust! Now, I use box.net and this blog. It's so much easier and I don't have to deal with the aholes at Podbean. ~P

All Things From My Brain : How do you know what to read?

I understand. And don't get me wrong, TOR publishes stuff I don't like too. Trying to remember the name of the book... David Drake! Lord of the Isles? I read it, but boy I didn't like it. ~P

All Things From My Brain : Excerpt Day 3: The Queen of Shadows

Obviously, this is deep into the original novel. What you don't see is that he is adopted by the captain of the guard when his parents are murdered, his future is pretty uncertain. He doesn't know that anyone intends to let him take his father's place (who was second in line for the throne), doesn't expect to be anything more than a soldier in the king's army, really. And the king actually makes a point of ignoring him for most of his life to try and keep him safe until he can name him as the heir (because he doesn't have any children of his own). By the time this chapter rolls around, the king sees a way to name the boy as heir and get him away from the castle where he'll be safe and can grow and come back a strong leader. ...which, of course, doesn't happen exactly according to plan. But that's tomorrow's post... Glad you like it. ~P

All Things From My Brain : Podcast: Episode 10

Couple things: I'm glad you liked the NASA stuff :) AND that you feel more informed. I've ranted before about NASA living in the past so maybe, hopefully, this really will push them forward. HULU is going to a pay per view model very soon if you believe the news on the net. Rupert Murdoch is pushing hard for it so there will be some sort of subscription service coming down the pipe. One HULU goes subscription, the networks who participate will probably limit even FURTHER THAN THEY ALREADY DO, the ability to stream episodes for free from their websites, which is sad. As for length of the podcast, it really does vary. I've gone as long as an hour and a half and as short as 30 minutes - it all depends on what's in teh news and interesting me :) If you want a REALLY GOOD, quick podcast that is interesting and entertaining, check out John Anealio's SciFi Songs podcast over at http://scifisongs.blogspot.com/search/label/podca... Typical episode is between 20 and 30 minutes. My podcast is modeled after the Slice of SciFi series ( http://www.sliceofscifi.com/ ) which tend to run about an hour. I've got some plans for future episodes that will see the format change up a little, but you're the first person who's felt they were too long. I'll keep that in mind as I move forward :) ~P

It is definitely incomplete in that it's just a piece, a little taste of something to come - and that's intentional. I have a set plan for past, present and future and all I need is the time to write it all :) ~P

All Things From My Brain : Excerpt from my novel

Thanks. :) 'Zippo' is probably the single most recognized brand of lighter around. (I don't smoke, btw). People collect em. They are not throw aways - you keep em. They are very distinctive; they have a lid that you flip back, then you thumb the wheel to spark the flame. Most of the smokers I have known use these and then, quite dramatically, snap the lid shut to extinguish the flame - hence the 'snap-click'. My uncle has always been extremely adept at A) lighting up at a record speed (step outside and before you can blink, he has lit up) and 2) snap-clicking his Zippo shut with flair and dramatic emphasis. Check out more on Zippo's here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zippo This is not the 1st chapter. This is the fifth. The 'stream of smoke' would be his blowing the smoke out after sucking it in, which can be 'streamed' forth and controlled quite well. Hell, my brother used to push it out through his ears, which was just weird and couldn't have been good for his hearing... or his brain... ~P

All Things From My Brain : Problems with the End of Time

I considered that. I also liked io9's theory that it could be the Doctor's mother and the other dissenting Timelord could be his father, but for my mind, Romana fits better. Briefly, I considered it could be Leela, who ended up on Galifrey with Romana, but I don't know that she could become a Timelord. If you throw in the possibility that the White Guardian is involved and, hence, the white dress she's always wearing, then the idea that it's Romana (sent to the Doctor by the White Guardian disguised as a Timelord), becomes more plausible. We may NEVER know who she is, or maybe we will. We'll just have to wait and see. ~P

All Things From My Brain : When TV shows had theme songs

is it that people were changing channels or is it that DVR's were invented? Have you noticed - something scheduled for 8 pm comes on at 7:58? Or 7:59? Something scheduled to go off at 9 goes off at 9:01? and the DVR's don't capture those times. So the idea is to force you to be in your seat ahead of time because the show is gonna just -start-. No preamble, no intro... no theme song :( ~P
