That is the problem, it spurs game playing and zero interest in the real instrument being that the instrument requires learning and calluses, this I know from watching a number of students give up because the real thing is too hard.
I myself do not have much nice to say about GH or anything trying to mimic it since I am a musician and play a real guitar. I have 2 of the guitars and GH for PS3. I myself did not find any enjoyment in the game but others have. I would say that if you want to be a guitar hero then pick up a real guitar but if you want to play games which is exactly what GH is then go for it. The idea that people are taking their time to copy the game making flash versions does disturb me a bit but hey at least they are free I guess.
