Big Hollywood : In Memoriam: Andrew Breitbart (1969-2012)

What a shock to wake up to! "Breitbart.com", "Big Hollywood," and "Big Peace" have been part of my morning routines since they started, so I am sorry for his passing. I hope what he built here--and what he helped start over at Huffington Post--will live on for many years, as a monument to his great spirit.

Big Journalism : Obama Plagiarizes Himself in SOTU, MSM Fails to Notice

I agree Obama is an empty suit who has not accomplished much. But your misuse of the word "plagiarized" is annoying.

Breitbart.tv : President Obama Plagiarized His Own SOTU Address

Aside from the fact that I'm not sure "plagiarized" means what the editor thinks it means--or at least doesn't seem to apply here--the clip demonstrates how little progress the Obama admin has made in many areas. Empty rhetoric got him elected. Empty rhetoric continues to be the mainstay of his presidency.

Big Hollywood : Occupy Sundance Sticks it to Redford's Swag-Laden Film Gala

Well... a B isn't bad, at least not when compared to some of the crap i spend a good part of my day watching. I think share your viewpoint on the Occupy [Insert Random Location Here] Movement, but it was still unfair of me to let my contempt cause me to pre-judge a film. (I still think it's a lame title... and I will see if "Hot Chicks of Occupy Wall Street--a GOOD title--lives up to the promise. :) )

I stand corrected. That was actually a decent short-form documentary. I liked the fact that it presents scenes as they appeared. People like me, who found the whole Occupy Movement a monumental hollow joke will keep shaking their heads... and those who found it inspiring will be inspiring. That said, I found the final minute stirring, despite my contempt for the subject matter. I overstepped myself and cast aspersions where I shouldn't have. "Occupy Wall St: The Revolution is Inspiring" is a well-done bit of film-making. My apologies!

“Occupy Wall St: The Revolution Is Inspiring” That title sure isn't. Most 4th grade history essays have cleverer tittles. I hope the film is better... although given that it probably treats the Occupy [Insert Random Location Here] Movement with reverence and respect, I doubt it.

Big Journalism : Homeland Security Spying On Your Social Media? More Hype Than News

I for one hope that it's true there's a Command Center of people sitting around doing what I dream about spending my work day doing. If it isn't, then I made this job application for no reason. I think I'd make a perfect Web Surfer in the Name of National Security. (Although it is a bit heartbreaking that I didn't make The List of monitored sites. I would have thought a blog where Mohammed and the glorious deeds of Iranian mullahs are discussed along side RPGs and criticism of Obama would be right up their alley. I guess I simply don't know my audience well enough. Or maybe my blog is on the REAL list... I mean, does anyone believe that the list revealed is the TRUE one?!)

Big Peace : Terror Plot In Tampa; CAIR Defends Suspect

It's funny how all these freaks are innocent, harmless fluff-bunnies who have been led astray by the eeeeevil agents of the FBI. You know, if someone came to me and said, "Hey, let's go murder a bunch of people!", and I had the sense they were serious, I'd be on the phone with the FBI at the earliest possible moment to report them. Just like the guy who apparently DID call the FBI after this latest harmless fluff-bunny started going on about his dreams of mass-murder. Could it be that these harmless fluff-bunnies are wanna-be terrorists that we should all be thankful to law enforcement for stopping before they murder us? When will CAIR be treated like the criminal front that it is?

It seems I'm just as talented an artist as Shepard Fairey... I too can run photos through Photoshop filters. (I most often combine Poster Edges and Ink Pen Sketch along with adjustments to lighting and contrast. And I even really DO composite many pictures at times..) Samples of my brilliant creations can be viewed here, here, and in many of the ROLF! game products. Heck, I even did a portrait of Obama in "ROLF: The Breast Hope for Peace " that's every bit as not-a-photo-run-through-Photoshop as the famous one Fairey made. I am available for commissions, and i work cheap. Does anyone have the email address for TIME Magazine's art director? [For the scarsm-impaired... I do not consider myself an artist. But I nonetheless do seem to meet all the standards and levels of talent required to be hired as an artist by a major magazine.]

Big Journalism : Federal Judge Hits Blogger with $2.5m Charge For "Not Being A Journalist" *UPDATED

I don't think that would have helped Cox. Just having spent some time reading some of her blog postings, I don't think serious organization would have given her credentials. A minimum standard would probably involve something that called for an understanding of punctuation and the Use of Significant Caps. And then there's the whole journalistic standards thing on top of that. Also, the judge's ruling seems to imply that she wasn't running her "investigations" with any sort of professional level of standards.... or at least she couldn't be bothered to present evidence of that in court. (Cox's own blog provides that little tidbit by quoting the ruling.)

Big Journalism : Federal Judge Hits Blogger with $2.5m Charge For "Not Being A Journalist" *UPDATED

As a former journalist and current blogger (albeit always in the mostly harmless areas of feature writing and entertainment reviews), I found this story disturbing. Even IF the woman represented herself in court (and thus had an idiot for a client), my first thought was she should be afforded the protection given to ANY journalist--staffer, stringer, self-publisher--who wants to keep a source anonymous. But then I went and read some of her blogs and blog posts. Or tried to. They were so badly written I found myself giving up. In this SPECIFIC case, I think the judge was correct in the ruling. This woman is not a journalist. She's the worst kind of semi-literate blogger. It's further damning that she also seems to have a habit of labeling unsubstantiated accusations as "facts"; I noted a number of those in one of the posts I tried to wade through... and back in my journalism days, I would have striken or rephrased those from any article or column I was writing or editing. Now.that's not to say there isn't a problem with Oregon's media shield law; it doesn't seem to take into account the web's "New Media." (I'm led to understand that Washington State's law does, which gives me comfort. Although I'm not sure that Crystal Cox would qualify as a journalist even under that, given the nature of her posts.) It is also interesting to note that over a series of postings at http://www.obsidianfinancesucks.com/ she tries to show how the judge was wrong but, at least as I read them, show the exact opposite.
