I was on it (and married) when my first child was born. I was 21 and making less than 10 dollars an hour. That being said, certain programs, such as WIC, need stricter limits on the time you can be on them. They should be a hand up not a hand out. Also, those on such programs need to be in school or working with a quarterly submitted g.p.a. and attendance or an report of hours worked and wages earned. I also feel that EVERY DIME that is handed out should be acccounted for. I know several people, unfortunately, who recieve food stamps only to turn around and sell them for 50 cents on the dollar.
