*Whole lot of libertarian bashing going on in these comments-- Guess you didn't hear the libertarian comments about social conservatives.. like "they scare the bejesus out of me." -- She's a free thinker! We need to have more like her. More sleepers need to awaken from the stifling "Conservative" label. __ Are you implying that you can't be a free thinker if you are a "stifled conservative?"

>BTW, how does what consenting adults do in the privacy of their own home affect anyone else? I don't care about gay sex.. I don't care about incestuous relationships.. Poyamory -MEH! What I care about is when a government ENDORSES a relationship. When a government endorse it with a license; anti-discriminatory laws, hate laws etc. follow.. You start intruding into my life.. If I am a cake baker, I shouldn't have to bake a cake for gay couples if I don't want to. Social conservatives were here first. Our agenda was the American agenda. We aren't pushing anything. We are fighting back!

---;On issues like marijauna (not hard drugs--another area where I break with the Libertarian Party) and out-of-wedlock marriage, I prefer to let each individual make their own decisions...and live with the consequences of their decisions, for good or ill. ---- Great philosophy, but..... you are forgetting one thing: There will always be bleeding hearts that don't subscribe to "each to his own, but pay your own way." They are called Democrats. I became a social conservative, because the GOVERNMENT is actively persuing and actively endorsing values that don't gel with mine. Get it? I could care less what you do in your home(drugs), bedroom (gay sex)etc. I don't want the government to say I have to accept those thing and pay for them in my life and my business. Don't tell me I have to teach my children one way. Don't tell me I have to insure Paul's husband, so I don't discriminate. MMKAY... THe government actively pushes their agenda on to US! Not the other way around. I don't have anything against libertarians. I think yall may be a little naive like living in how things "should be" to how real life actually is. It is always the libertarians who have a problem with me. "Social conservatives scare the bejesus out of me."

----;Most social conservatives mostly don't want to be forced to participate, even if they don't care what someone else is up to on their own time. They don't want their children taught what they don't approve of in coercive government schools. They don't want to be forced to recognize someone else's lifestyle, or pay for research they personally hold as immoral. (The most notable exception is abortion, which is understandable if one views an unborn child as a fellow human being.) --- BINGO!

Also, as a social conservative- I don't want the government pushing ANYTHING. I want the federal government out of local issues like abortion and marriage licenses. That way when push for anything goes in California, Illinois, New York etc by liberals and libertarians alike. I can take my conservative ass and move to Alabama.

Really social conservatives scare you? Boo! Some of us "social conservatives" know that life does not occur in vacuum. That despite your hope for anarchistic "freedom" from government; there will always be Democrats around to push pay for those who don't take this responsibility seriously or what they deem is victims. Social Conservatism leads to lesser government.. More responsible intact families leads to less government. BTW, social conservatives don't want more government. They just want the current government to stop pushing the anti-thesis to social conservatism. It isn't social conservatist who are pushing their agenda in the courts. We didn't overturn Roe v. Wade. We didn't go to court to push gay marriage. We go to the ballot box like sensible people. So again I say Boo!

Big Hollywood : Kyle Smith: 'Things Take a Turn For the Gay' in 'Happy Feet Two'

You can't argue with stupid, but I am going to try. First off, Fred Phelps is a registered Democrat who actually ran for office as a Democrat. Second, it is the indoctrination of our children by Hollywood- that I have a problem with. Homosexuality is an ADULT concept. My four year old doesn't even understand the complexities of a hetoro relationship; yet Hollywood thinks that it is okay to muddy the waters by introducing this in a SEQUEL no less.

@szysgt--Thank you for the wonderful compliment. @Lady--I am so sorry to hear what you are going through. It takes a toll, and by some luck my husband and I survived(he is retiring in 9months). I have seen so many marriages fall by the wayside, and I am being truthful when I say that it was by luck and the grace of God that we survived. I will keep you in my prayers also. Stress-hollywood doesn't know stress.. Try keeping a marriage going when you haven't seen him in almost two years..

Kim Kardashian wasn't taking a risk by being married 72 days. A risk is trying to work on a marriage, because you made vows that you take seriously. And I don't care how difficult "Hollywood" thinks marriage is in the limelight. Try being married 20 years to a guy who deploys every other year, and you pray you don't get that "knock" on the door when he is gone.

Rambler, You need to actually go back and study science. There is as much evidence for a gay gene as there is for enviromental reasons someone has a sexual prediliction. As far as your "gay animals," again you should go back and look at your examples. THose penguins you talk about- when presented with a member of the opposite sex; they all left their respective partners in the zoos.. We put human motives on to animals. Animals are instictive; that is why those "gay" animals when it comes time to reproduce- find a heterosexual partner...see the Laysan Albatross for example...

How do we know that the people in the audience booing this guy weren't Veterans? Why can't you boo a servicemember when he asks a political question you disagree with? My husband has served this country for 20 years, and will retire this year. It doesn't make him fragile, and if he puts himself out there in a political forum-he would expect to have people disagree with him. You aren't booing his service.. You are booing his political position or even the question the moderators ask. When the heck did the Republican party become so PC?

Big Hollywood : Hollywood Celebrates New York Same-Sex Marriage Ruling

Jim, If you considered yourself "engaged for 24 +years then apparently you were waiting for a state to sanction your relationship. As another poster related: Congratulation on letting big brother into your bedroom. Gay marriage is the epitome of big brother. It must be forced by the state since homosexuals cannot form natural legal families without state coercion or involvement. Heterosexuals will via naturally born children. That being said, I do not agree with same sex marriage, but do agree that you should have all the contract rights available to you for your partner (but I also agree that these same civil rights should be available to children of aging parents also). And I wish you nothing but the best for you and your partner. God Bless!

You just don't get it. Gay couples cannot be legitimized unless through big government. If marriage ended tomorrow a heterosexual couple would NATURALLY create a family that would have legal bonds through children. Gay couples require the state, even if one has children and wants the other recognized as the second parent- they require the nanny government to relinquish the genetic donor rights and recognize the rights to the new "parent."

Actually you are only partly right. Marriage in America has it's root in the English Common law which understood that heterosexual couples would come together INDEPENDENTLY of the state and form a bond. The state needed to make these bonds LEGAL, so that it was easier to pass land down through the generation, hence why a child born in WEDLOCK is assumed the husbands. The state had a leg. reason to acknowledge couples who had the opposites parts to make children hence future tax payers, and it kept the father as the responsibile party and not the state. That changed with the 1960's and the welfare state. This also started the destruction of the family. There is no leg. reason for the state to recognize homosexual unions. They cannot procreate or create a bond outside of the state. The state must force a bond. All these things can be done privately with contracts. Marriage isn't based on love which is what homosexual activists would have you believe. The American legal system and tradition is all we should be concerned about.. You version, of course- fits your narrative.
