Sadly, Firefox 23 has been a real shitty annoyance lately, blocking out stuff silently without much indication that something was supposed to be there. A quick work-around I think will help fix your problem: Go to about:config in Firefox, scroll down to security.mixed_content.block_active_content and double-click to set it to false. I hate doing that because there is a reason such settings are there, but I got tired of the empty spaces.
After having way too many new freshmen show up to my classroom having been spoon-fed this exact kind of bullshit, I just can't muster up the snark in me. So thank Jeebus that Wonkette does it, beautifully. Fuck these Christianist textbooks.
