in terms of snow? In New Brunswick we got a huge snowstorm yesterday, and a power outage to go with it. And the snow is still here. Gotta love Canada.

Personally, I actually tend to refer to them as supporting characters. The name suits the role, does it not?

Yeah. I was thinking them too. Side characters are characters that aren't important enough to be main characters, but not as unimportant as background characters. E.g. The ones you said, Snips, Snails, Granny Smith, Luna, etc.
