Clever Manka : Friday open thread

I walked with the BLM group in my city last night and it was, so many people from so many backgrounds coming together. It was a reminder to me that I am pursuing the career that I am for a reason, but that I will have to always push to keep that reason central to me because a lot of people don't want to hear about it or don't care. Also thanks for sharing the Melissa Joulwan link, CM! It seems like the kind of introspection I need these days!

The Toast : An Open Thread, and Sea Room

I feel torn about it because I can totally come while it's in NC. But I agree, it may not be a friendly place for the LGBTQA toasts. But at the same time, I feel like there is something to be said for showing up and being unabashedly who you are. It reminds me of when my friends gay men's group held their retreat in a rural campground near a known KKK stronghold. It went fine, they got a little hostility but 70+ people showed up and I think that sent a message. But I suppose other people may feel differently.

Does anybody with an Etsy store and print experience want to make a poster of a few of these lines? 100% need that framed above my desk forever.

This actually made me tear up and now I am sending it to my mom who is super pro-Hillary. I don't know how I'm going to do anything useful today.

I hope that someday we can have space-witch representation in our political system. It will be a powerful moment (Actually I'm pretty sure there are some Space Witches in politics already but I don't know if they actively claim the title. How about an open-space-witch, then?)

The Toast : The Final Link Roundup!

This has been a special place and I am going to miss the collection of writers and artists and the fabulous editors and the very entertaining and smart and awesome comment section. I found the Toast when I was doing an internship (great!) in a tiny town in the middle of nowhere (terrible!) and living with a weird roommate and the streets of the town rolled up at 6:30 so I spent my evenings on the internet. I migrated from the Hairpin, where I didn't comment, and then I didn't comment on the Toast for a long time but now that I do I'm going to miss it even more. You all are smart, wonderful people and I wish you all the luck as you take to the sea!

If you are a county employee there will probably (somewhere, buried in some obscure, falling down office) be a code of conduct. It might actually be online! This may have been a breach of the code of conduct though if you are contract workers or temps it may be harder to get anything done. Good luck!
