I am so sorry you're going through this, sending so many good thoughts going your way. I've been through it three times - with my first cat, who lived five years after his diagnosis at 16, with a foster who had a very sudden decline shortly after she came to me and luckily her owner was still around to make the call, and with the other foster a couple of years later. What I would have done differently with my first cat based on my experience with later kitties - and I don't know if it's helpful to hear this - is I would have let go sooner rather than take the risk of prolonging any of their suffering.

Having said that, it can be so hard to recognise what is recoverable versus not, and the situation is just rotten either way. I hope the situation resolves in the best way for all of you.

This week I've had an excellent balance of sleeping in late then lolling about reading and actually being sort of productive (baking, swimming, decluttering) while not putting any pressure on myself to be. Tomorrow night is drinks and snacks and games with a few friends; similar to Kazoogrrl, I'd like to start NYD the way I mean to go on so will be trying not to overindulge tomorrow night. I don't go back to work until Tuesday though, so if I don't stay on target I'll still have a day to lie on the couch faintly.

I have survived all the bits of December that were massively overscheduled and my to-do list has been reduced to a very manageable number of tasks. If I can just fend off the inevitable post-stress cold, all will be relatively well and my holiday break involves tea with amaretto and a giant stack of books. CANNOT WAIT.

You look so amazingly staunch in that photo, I'm glad you were able to make your voice heard despite feeling rotten.
