I sensed acute anxiety from Douglas Alexander on yesterday's TV coverage of the conference , and was intrigued by the overall 'gung-ho' standing ovation the party faithful ( wasn't that Eddie Izzard near the front?) gave their leader's vacuous and disingenuous speech . They should be further ahead in the mid-term polls and they know it . To pinch such an iconic Tory concept as Disraeli's "One Nation" when Labour have tried so hard to break up the United Kingdom smacks of desperation .

I don't remember the police apologising to Damian Green or to his wife and daughter ( who they apparently terrified) after their outrageous raids on the shadow immigration minister's office and home . That affair was politically motivated and so is this one as far as I can see .

Mitchell probably does need some anger management therapy but this story has been blown out of all proportion by the media , from the Sun to the BBC , who should know better. Many of us have momentarily "lost it" at work and said something regrettable . The guy has apologised for a pretty trivial offense and the matter should end there .
Our P.M. just might have a few more important matters on his mind right now that actually effect this country's immediate future . Let's drop it , move on and grow up !
