Ya, you're probably right. The CDC is an unreliable place to get a statistic like "over half are pit bull and rottweilers". ftp://ftp.cdc.gov/pub/Publications/mmwr/wk/mm4621.pdf Though I appreciate your info - I see you didn't include any reliable source either to back up your comment. Kudos.

Though certainly I blame owners for not caging their unpredictable animals -- let us remember pit bulls were bred for the sole purpose of fighting. ( a cross of a bulldog and terrier) It should be of no surprise that the Center for Disease Control finds that over half of the dog-related attack deaths are from "Pit bull-type dogs and Rottweilers". These types weren't bred to be cuddly teddy bears...

We had a rot in our neighborhood. Our neighbor shot and killed it when it jumped the fence and started biting his daughter. Not really the point now is it? Though he'll find good company with you in hell -as I can't imagine those who wish hell upon someone are really fit to be with their christian god.

Good plan - as of today - let's rush out and prosecute any family who's put down their family pet with murder. Oh yes, even those who flushed their gold fish down the toilet or burned ants with a magnifying glass!

Yes! That's got to be it. Dogs and other animals don't just act like animals. Bears don't just attack, dogs don't just bark and attack small children and elderly, and certainly birds don't just poop on us unprovocted. Oh wait - or do they given that in the end, they're unpredictable animals. Dogs just happen to be more domesticated. If he intended the dog to suffer, then sure, animal cruelty. Charge him with that. For all those posting that the owner deserves the same fate as the dog -- you're no better than him.

This is our own fault. If we'd impose a mix of income and sales tax like other more healthy states -- and stop doing stupid things like insisting the state earmark only certain funds for certain projects instead of allowing it to be a collective pool. Out of who's butt do we think we can just pull money out of and pay for teachers?

As any bank employee will tell you, they're trained to NOT take aggressive action against a suspected or real robber. This concept of "protecting assets at any cost" just doesn't apply in any industry -- this is why we have insurance. Human life is never expendable for the protection of assets. However, journalists who take pictures are often arrested -- and then released after the situation is determined innocent/safe. This is how the world works. Police can take someone into custody but must release them in a 24-48 hours if they have no evidence to suggest they were involved in criminal activity. Sure, he's a self-proclaimed anarchist. But - let's remember we judge crimes not people or their past. A person may have a history of crime, and that's used to determine if there's a likelihood of committing a crime again - but ultimately guilt is determined by the actual act.

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Crash of stolen car snarls I-5 traffic for hours | KOMO News - Seattle, Washington | Local

I always thought police should withdraw from the pursuit if it's deemed dangerous to the public. Seems this was pretty dangerous to the public, and rather expensive during the post-crash. I wonder why said policemen/women didn't just stop pursuing the suspect, allow suspect to feel comfortable slowing down himself, and we'd all be a lot safer. Surely this pursuit/crash cost far more than the insurance claim for a stolen car. Or maybe police dream of pursuing cars at high rates of speed just like on TV. Search "police hits kid pursuing speeder" on Google and find out why police are supposed to factor in public safety when determining if a chase is worth it.

That - and it's our tax money that pays for the "rescues" of those who choose to be beligerant towards madatory evacuation notices.
Deposits up to $10,000 are FDIC insured. Money left in WAMU right now is only a good thing - as they're paying higher interest to the consumer for saving with them. 3.75% is their current rate for a savings account. 5% for a 12-month CD. Though some credit unions like Verity are 5.05% -- you have to make 12 debit card transactions in order to qualify. Meanwhile - if you have more than $10k in accounts with any single bank than you need a lesson on finances, insurance, and portfolio diversification. I'm just not nervous having an account at WAMU. And on a side note - who does anything more than buying short on banks that keep warning of mortgage expenses? Risky stock buying deserves big pay-off's -- and big losses. Seems like you kinda got what was coming.

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Average price of gas in Washington $3.93 | KOMO News - Seattle, Washington | News

Ridership on the Microsoft bus system is down. One of the biggest complaints -- the buses don't come close enough to their house/apt/condo. So I'm thinking - and what do I know - that maybe buses aren't meant to pick you up at your front door. So I'm wondering, could Metro/ST/CT address their concerns if they're wanting red carpet treatment? It's not necessarily that our public transit "sucks" -- it's that the large corporations are having rentention issues and continue to roll out more perks that employee's and potential employees have asked for (that my friend - is what Microsoft's HR wrote about why they started the system).

Well let me go reserve my seat on Microsoft's bus! (Literally - you have to book your seat online ahead of time) Maybe Microsoft created it's own because they knew high ridership by $60k+/yr doesn't occur on buses where there's such a "class" aversion to riding with all the low income folks. Maybe. Maybe not. I didn't pay $700k for my 3 bedroom townhouse in Seattle -- so I'm thinking we have different tastes in kitchen fixtures.

It's a misconception that it's more expensive to live in a downtown urban center. Studies show that those folks who are moving out to find "affordable" housing away from transit and urban centers are spending all those savings on transportation costs. http://nhc.org/index/heavyload Gas will continue to rise. It's a limited commodity -- we're just being ignorant when we don't take aggresive steps to change. We don't live in the 50's -- yet we continue to "develop" our communities as if we did. Time to start using mass transit and plan our housing arrangements around urban, mixed use areas.

Truth be told I wouldn't have read down this far but I was counting your "really's" in the same way you can't stop eating pringles once you start. It's one of the few statements that work in almost any social situation.

Clearly online forums do not faciliate or promote rational debate with everyone's points backed up by good references. We're on these forums to post our opinion of the news -- give our interpretation of the information laid out. Then for those who choose to traverse these string of posts - we weed out the obvious stupid ones and perhaps get a perspective we didn't otherwise think about. I'm also crossing my fingers you'll stop starting your posts with "really, I mean really - do you really..."
