It would be interesting to know the funding situation - my guess is that dollars/staff-per-patient ratios have gone WAY downhill since the 1980s.

I know someone's TD'd me for this, but let's be clear what the new GOP's key issues are:

* No taxes at all ever
* An end to most reproductive rights
* Demonizing gays, immigrants, and Muslims
* Pushing a particular form of Christianity

And given how central anti-gay animus to the party's identity now, I just don't see how there's space for GOProud or other similar groups. I'm all for a good uphill battle, but this feels like Stockholm syndrome.

They're called GOProud now - and yes, I totally agree. I disagreed with, but sort of understood the LCR position back in the 1980s, but their level of denial about where they stand in their party just seems pathological at this point.

I think we all know that people "resign" all the time as a way to save face. He was totally forced out, even if technically he wasn't fired.

"Accountability is the American way" says nothing meaningful about policy - it's a platitude. "Attacking both parties" and "I don't trust government" are not solutions.

That said, we are so far off the topic of GOP homophobia that I'm done with this conversation.

I haven't made a single argument defending anything, and I certainly don't defend the current political and economic system. And I haven't seen you propose a single solution other than the usual all-government-is-bad false equivalencies.
