I don't have ANY credit card debt and the two cars I own are paid for (one of which is only 6 months old). The only debt I hold is a mortgage on a new home that I built this past year, and guess what, I put down nearly 30% to build that house so my payment would be low. I believe in paying for things with cash, not acruing debt (except for a home) AND I put away almost 10% of my paycheck into a retirement. I have truly been blessed in my life because of my hard work, because I worked my butt off in college, and because I am fiscally conservative. Because sound conservative principles which I have followed in my life, I am NOT on a pathway of destruction, but on a pathway of self sufficiency and I plan on retiring well before I am 60 years old. The fact is, there were thousands of companies during that time period that went into bankruptcy and then emerged stronger. For example, here in Arizona, a grocery store chain called Basha's went into bankruptcy. At that time, they had nearly 17,000 employees. Today, they are stronger than ever and still employ about the same amount of people. In fact, they are looking to open even more stores now and are better prepared for the future. GM could have done the EXACT same thing WITHOUT BILLIONS of taxpayer dollars. They could have gone into bankruptcy protection, and a bankrupcy judge would have helped them to trim the fat, renegotiate various contracts, close some plants if necessary, etc. They would have emerged stronger and positioned themselves to be more competitive in the world market. Instead, Obama gave them BILLIONS of taxpayer dollars, which will never totally be returned to the taxpayers.
