Anybody who has a credit card, a mortgage, a car payment, etc. believes they are immune to the simple rule of 'Budgeting 101'.

As a public employee, if I want to go demonstrate in Olympia I have to use my vacation time, just like anybody else would. I know, I know, I shouldn't even get vacation time though. (That's what you were going to say next, right?)

I agree, it is sad what our country has become, so teach your children & your children's children better than what is being taught now. Don't raise them to believe that they don't have to work for the things they want, that the government will take care of them. This mentality is getting worse with each passing generation.

Do some research on Public Health's history, then come back to this comment & then try to make the same comment, that Public Health focuses on a 'limited group'. Public Health has been around a lot longer than you have.

Oh, so I guess vaccinations don't separate us from third world countries??? So, why did I have to get so many when I went to a third world country? Why don't you take a trip to, lets say, the Philippines that just had major flooding & where disease is sure to be breaking out & people are most likely dying because they haven't had the luxury to be vaccinated like those of us in the US. We'll send you to help with relief, but we'll send you unvaccinated, want to guess how long you'll be there before you get sick?

You might want to get your information straight 'vere_veritas', in 2008 the Snohomish Health District had a reserve fund to get them through these recession times but the county told them they couldn't have money in reserves, that it had to be spent. So, the Health District had no choice but to spend it's reserves. Then the economic recession hit & the Health District had no money, the Health District saw it coming, knew it would cripple Public Health if there was a pandemic, & guess what, they were right.

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Court order sought to end Kent teachers strike | KOMO News - Breaking News, Sports, Traffic and Weat

The public has a right to vote regarding funding in their district, city, etc. If you choose to vote against that funding, it's not the teachers' fault, the fire deparments fault, etc., it's the voters' fault, it's YOU. And, if you don't vote, don't complain. Teachers, like a lot of other public employees aren't doing their job for the money, they do it because they want to, because they care. You want someone who doesn't care teaching your children, the future leaders of this country? Maybe if public employees were allowed to strike they'd get the respect & funding they deserve, rather than a slap in the face. If I had a child in public school I sure wouldn't want them to be 1 of 40.

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Consumer Reports\' report card on area hospitals | KOMO News- Seattle, Washington| News

Good nurses are harder to find because of the way they are treated, the lack of respect that they get, and, unfortunately because they get paid so little to put up with it all. You can argue the pay issue all you want but until you've done the job you can't even begin to understand the frustration. A lot of my classmates had no intention of working in the hospital setting after graduation, for these reasons & more. The nursing shortage shouldn't be a surprise, why would someone want to be disrespected day after day, few others put up with it, why should nurses?

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Legislature\'s offices to be remodeled | KOMO News - Seattle, Washington | Local

Nice, the legislature can afford to remodel during an economic crisis but my job is at risk because the program I work for was just cut because of 'lack of state funding'. What a slap in the face. I can think of 20 million better things to do with that money. This is going to help our economy how??

KOMO - Seattle, WA : 6 probable swine flu cases surface in Washington state | KOMO News - Seattle, Washington | Local

Maybe now the state will recognize the valuable role that Public Health plays in situations such as these & start properly funding Public Health. Do you think enough people would come forward to volunteer if Public Health lost most of its funding & had to lay off the majority of their work force? The people working in Snohomish County on Emergency Preparedness are mostly employees of the Health District who have been pulled from their normal duties to help educate & keep the county healthy. I think it's time we start to rethink our priorities as residents. I, for one, would feel more comfortable knowing that there were people out their fighting to stop this spread if I were one of the 'probable' or 'suspected' cases.

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Snohomish County braces for public health cuts | KOMO News - Seattle, Washington | Local

If you think that all that Public Health does is help pregnant women & their babies then you seriously need to do your homework. Do you also want those people investigating the recent E.Coli outbreak laid off as well? While we're at it, lets lay off the people who inspect restaurants all over the county to make sure they are following health standards. To think that not funding Public Health is going to stop these problems, you're just naive, you're tax dollars will pay for it either through Public Health or through the ERs of every local hospital bill that cannot be paid. To fund Public Health is much cheaper. Oh, and DSHS is responsible for Food Stamps, not the health department.
