Big Journalism : Salon Horrified That Natalie Portman Thinks More of Her Baby Than Her Oscar

I fell into the whole "my work is my life" mindset when I decided to peruse art. When my husband and I were married, I realized that the gratification I get from "my work" does not at all compare to the happiness that I experienced through my role as wife, and anticipated as a mother. The time devoted to one's true love (family) can never compare to the "passion" of a career. My husband died in Afghanistan this past December, so now I am back to what meager purpose I can find within my artwork. It's sad that the Salon writer see's Portman role an actress as more important than Portman's role as a loving human person.

Breitbart.tv : MSNBC Host Laughs At and Mocks Gay Conservative

People cry about pro-life people being one-issue-voters - yet at least their one issue is life or death. This host is trying to limit all gay people into one-issue-voters when the guest, and other homosexual conservatives, are smart enough to realize that their sexuality is not the only thing that matters in public policy. I am amazed by the host's inability to understand what reality truly is.

Big Government : Reason.tv: The Power of Nazi Propaganda

Between "Obama, the musical" in Europe and the bronze statue of him as a child where he went to grade school, I'm wondering how long it will be before we have enough to fill a museum with his messianic imagery.

Breitbart.tv : Pope: Condoms Can Be Justified in Some Cases

The point is that condoms are not "evil," it is their use in changing the meaning of human sexuality from both a it's unitive and procreative purposes to just being about two people satisfying their sexual urge without that lifetime commitment a potential child brings to the relationship. It is removing God from the most intimate aspect of the male/female relationship in which His hand is naturally seen. When the reproductive aspect is not there to begin with (such is the case with male prostitutes to male clients), the other aspect of condom use - prevention of the spread of disease is it's only effective purpose. It is the same principle as stated in Humanae Vitae where a woman can use "the pill" to help with other health issues (sometimes the doctors rx for purposes other than preventing pregnancy), but if she is sexually active, then it's contraceptive/abortifacient purpose is employed and it is no longer moral. The reason why the Church is so protective of the definition of the sexual relationship is because it is at the heart of being made In the Image of God. The pope's comments, although easily misrepresented in headlines, shows the continued union between faith in reason within Church teaching.

In the Catechism, that sentence is quoted from St. Athanasius, and a similar sentence is quoted from St. Thomas Aquinas. It is prefaced with the first sentence of the paragraph which says "The Word became flesh to make us 'partakers of the divine nature' (2 Pet 1:4)" We do not "become gods," we partake in a relationship with God as intimate as a father to a son (think how Jesus taught us to pray the Our Father). The saints sited are used to reinforce St. Peter's thoughts, though their wording (or maybe the translation into English? I don't know) may seem to teach something else if read out of context, as you present.

Big Peace : Re-Examining the Origins of the Crusades

Interesting theory. My question is how does this "300 year leap" work with the sequence of popes during that time? That would be roughly 54 popes they would have entered in there, or altered their dates. There would also be three ecumenical councils with specific church decrees which would have had their dates altered. There could be more to the theory that I am not aware of, but I am a bit skeptical.

Breitbart.tv : San Francisco Takes on Happy Meals

it's not just about the food being taken in, it's about the energy that is not being used. are they only going to allow kids with a "healthy bmi" to purchase video games? are they going to require kids to join a govt workout program? govt just picks something to blame as if they can solve the world's problems - not even bothering to look at the fundamental problem of society's lack of personal responsibility.

Big Peace : Soldier Suicides: Are They Really Combat Related?

The article makes a good point. As a wife who's husband is currently deployed, I also want to point out that many of the suicides have been related to a girlfriend cheating or a wife filing for divorce (I don't remember where I got the statistic, but it was pretty staggering). They give up 7-15 months of their life only to come back and find that their home life (their real life) in tatters. The promiscuity that our culture encourages conflicts with the devotion that a woman/man needs commit too when a part of a military relationship. For this reason, I very much agree that it is not simply the challenge of combat that is making it difficult for our military to cope, it's the pitfalls of our society which does not raise adults with strength in character.

Breitbart.tv : Another Example of Left Wing Campaign Rage Set to Be Ignored by Media

its so sad - a friend of mine from undergrad had this same sentiment - people really do believe the whole "overwhelming racism in the tea party" myth - the regular news doesn't tell people about the actual principles which are the basis of dislike for obama - the media just tells them it's about a black man as president. it's very sad how the lies create so much needless anger and hatred.

Big Hollywood : While We're At It, Let's Defund Those National Endowment for the Arts' Cowards

as an artist on the contemporary scene - i would love for people to be able to keep the money they earn so they could actually buy art work. while art is still selling to some extent because it is considered an investment, the economic environment prevents people from the purchases they would have made because they don't know what is going to happen in the near future. with the NEA, it is the people who know how to work the system that get the financial backing more so than the people who create quality work. i could see reducing the NEA to simply funding museum collections and public memorials (although i believe simply raising the money through donations and private support would work we didn't tax it out of people), but great art will survive without it's "help" also, just a reminder to those interested in a more socialist type government - socialist art(propaganda) sucked - what is being put out by many artists today is essentially abstract or simply offensive kitsch - vacant beyond it's soundbite message.

Breitbart.tv : DADT Debate Gets Heated with Log Cabin Republican Leader

the log cabin guy is ridiculous - i think people outside of the military do not quite understand the distinct difference between the freedoms citizens enjoy, and those which the military sacrifice. they go where they are told, they are told who their team mate will be, who they will be showering and sleeping with. if they completely get rid of DADT, there will be complaints coming in from individuals saying they are being discriminated against or harassed by their peers when 95% of military humor is at someone's expense. the complaints will be used either because someone is being over sensitive or to get back at someone. it happens with the women, where the man has to adjust his approach because she might cry or she might retaliate by claiming sexual harassment. the military is not supposed to be about drama, it is supposed to be about getting the job done.

Breitbart.tv : Devout Muslim Woman Uses Seeing-Eye Horse

I'm impressed - she's able to gain some independence and live closer to a normal life despite her disability while also working within the rubrics of her religion. She didn't cry about it and get the ACLU to take on the seeing eye dog trainers for discrimination against Muslims. She and her family took the initiative and found a way to make it work. Granted, a horse seems a bit more messy to clean up after, but I respect her extra effort to stay within her faith.

Big Peace : Farrakhan Demands Reparations from Jews

"Reparations" are beginning to look strangely similar to the Jizya (Islamic tax on infidels) - when you require someone to pay simply because of the religion they practice, there is something very wrong. I find it interesting that Farrakhan so conveniently forgets that it were the Islamic slave trader's influence on the Spanish which is what brought overseas slavery to America. The Christian faith (rooted in the Jewish faith of course) was realizing that they can not justly call a man a neighbor and enslave him at the same time.

Breitbart.tv : 6'4" Cop Bullies 4'11" Videographer as She Tapes BP Worker Taken Away in Ambulance

For as much as I am for people video taping to be able to present more to a story, this lady should have respected the privacy of the person in the ambulance. There are some pretty high quality cameras and microphones out there, how are the officials to know that she is not invading the person's privacy? Considering the ambulance is essentially a doctor's office on wheels, does she think she has the right to stand outside of a doctor's office with her camera pointed into an open window? The person's illness may have been due to the oil, it may have been due to heat stroke, it may have been any number of things. The "videographer" excuses her own stupid remarks as panic, then condemns the officer for his stupid remarks, which were obviously intended to distract her and get her away from the scene. Unless something actually incriminating comes about, I see no issue with the video other than two nosy ladies.
