Daily Camera.com: : Fearing bad winter, Boulder staff recommends scaling back much of Folsom \'right-sizing\' - Boulder

This has nothing to do with how nonprofits actually work. The board has no salary, it's all volunteer, and nonprofits are required to show a certain amount of public support and public good done for the funds they take in. They have to file tax forms which are public record. If they were getting rich off this they'd lose their 501(c)3 status.

I always wear a helmet, always use lights (generator lights rock, you never have to think about them), and could still get creamed by a car tomorrow - god forbid. Helmets & lights will not protect me from careless morons texting while they drive. That is the reason for protected lanes, as you yourself seem to admit since you call riding at night suicidal. Why not change things so it's NOT suicidal? The planet and your fellow drivers (who have more room due to those biking taking less space) will thank you.

Daily Camera.com: : Bob Greenlee: Should our living laboratory just die? - Boulder Daily Camera

I would love to see cyclist training starting in grade school, as they do in the Netherlands. I would also love to see more driver training about how to drive safely around cyclists. The canals are not relevant to transportation in Amsterdam unless you're interested in how many stolen bikes the homeless throw in the canals. (Lots.)

Actually I have biked in Amsterdam, starting at the airport and heading out to Amstelveen, and farther out to Utrecht, and eventually to the Venlo train station. Visiting (and riding with) my sweetie's friends. I was about the only person I saw wearing a helmet - I used it as my "watch out, I'm not from here and don't know what I'm doing" symbol. But I don't need to argue with anecdotal evidence; the link I posted above states US helmet use rates are far above Amsterdam's. In the city, things are slower than most US streets, but I am not the world's speediest cyclist and I can tell you they were well above 5 MPH because I had to work to keep up. I'm not anti-helmet; I always wear one. **My point is that helmets are not a panacea nor a substitute for adequate infrastructure**. Which I agree may have to look different here than is does there. Protected lanes are a true way to increase cyclist safety. The following links have a wealth of information on the topic. http://www.peopleforbikes.org/statistics/category... http://cyclingincities.spph.ubc.ca/injuries/the-b... Greenlee was implying that helmets are more important than safe infrastructure, and the studies refute that.

Helmets do not equal safety. Proper infrastructure equals safety. In Amsterdam no one wears helmets and they have proper infrastructure, and their injury rates are far below US rates. https://www.aaafoundation.org/sites/default/files...

Council members don't have dedicated parking spots. As per a member of TAB who checked on it when I mentioned this letter. Just FYI, I have seen Young and Cowles bike to council meetings, and Jones bike to her day job.

We don't need the anecdotes of 'no bikes' either. And the city did collect data on Folsom before that project, and does intend to follow up. It's in the TAB packet from that meeting.

I don't know where you folks are looking, but it's not at the bike lanes, because I see a bike in these lanes just about every time I go by them. There may be a wide sidewalk on the south side, but not on the north side, and the wide sidewalk narrows at the church anyway, which means if you're going to Meadows or points east the lanes are a much faster, safer way to go.

Daily Camera.com: : Dick Lentz: Gay marriage -- God may grant our wish to be left alone - Boulder Daily Camera

Considering 'God' has been the cause of many wars in the course of human history, perhaps we might be better off if 'God' left us alone to work things out among ourselves. And is your god really so weak that 'he' would give up on humanity because we decided to let some people love each other?

Daily Camera.com: : Boulder\'s bid to repurpose vehicle lanes for bikes draws debate - Boulder Daily Camera

I'm not asking everyone to do it. (let alone insisting) I'm just asking for the space to make it possible so that those that wish to can do it. There are many more folks who would like to do it but feel, rightfully, that it's too dangerous. This project would fix that.

I have biked down 30th with a six foot section of downspot on my bike. I've hauled a tree, a TV, my cat (in her carrier - she actually preferred it to the car), trim, 5 gallons of fertilizer, 100 pounds of stuff from King Soopers, and any number of less remarkable loads. Yes, my husband owns a car that I would use to carry an extension ladder. One trip out of how many? I've seen these projects work well in other cities. I'll judge after it's put in, not before. it's a trial.

Bleeth, I've seen you comment along these lines before. You seem to think it's inconceivable anyone could carry anything more than their own butt on a bike. College students regularly carry their own backpack full of books. Look at people coming out of the stores. Yes, many are carrying more than a backpack's worth, but so many are just picking up a thing or two. What if those trips happened by bike? I own a trailer, so I can grocery shop once a week by bike, but even before I did I had two baskets that would hold two full grocery bags, or plumbing parts, or a six pack each, or any number of other things I might want to pick up on the way home. Look at the bike racks at Home Depot - last time I was there they were about full. Shopping by bike is a normal everyday thing that lots of Boulderites do. Please stop telling me what I do is impossible.

What she's doing is legal. Check out this map: https://www-static.bouldercolorado.gov/docs/bikin... In many cities cyclists are yelled at to get on the sidewalk. Here they are yelled at to get off the sidewalk. We just want a safe, usable space to ride. The current lanes are substandard width - created before standards existed - and this project would bring them up to standards. We don't want to be in conflict with cars or peds any more than the cars or peds want it.
