I'm working a late shift tonight, supervising doctors-in-training and taking care of patients. So i'm the only one in my office in the hospital and it just started thunderstorming. So I turned off all the lights and pulled up the shade as high as it would go so I can sit and enjoy the lightning. Too witches, indeed.

Love your name! I think I'm going to reread some Pratchett this weekend to cheer myself up. And The Truth is one of those books I'll go back to because I kind of remember liking it and about 1/4 of the way in I'm remembering how amazing it is. See you on Slack!

You're one of the first Toasties I followed on Twitter because I was so excited for your pilgrimage! I was intrigued by your Open Thread comments about it, and wanted to hear more. I was at a point in my life when I couldn't travel much and the idea of taking time to walk across countries by myself was just heavenly. I lived vicariously through your Twitter for that trip and then went on to root for you as you found your strength to handle your mother. I don't tweet much, but I think one of the many Toast-lessons is that I should say hi more often to folks I think are cool. So, hi!

Thanks, guys. I learned so much and though I was mostly a lurker, I thoroughly enjoyed being part of the commentariat. So many amazing people are here with so many different perspectives. I'll see you around, on Slack and/or Reddit, where I intend to participate more because I like you people and want to be friends.

And thanks to our fearless editors for everything. I really appreciate that you're officially ending it, rather than just having it peter out or suddenly be gone. Grieving is hard, but I much prefer it this way.

May you all always have a willing foe and sea room.

I've always loved this song by the Indigo Girls and feel like these lines are appropriate today:

But they left out the sisters
Praying to a father god so long I really missed her
The goddess of benevolence
You should listen to your mama if you have a lick of sense left

Pushed under by the main press, buried under a code of dress
Relegated by the Vatican
But you can't keep a spirit down that wants to get up again

If we're a drop in the bucket
With just enough science to keep from saying fuck it
Until the last drop of sun burns its sweet light
Plenty revolutions left until we get this thing right

If you find time to go to a library (preferably one that specializes in old and/or rare books), you will have created the Toastiest memorial day ever!

If you're ever in Boston, there's a nice monument to the Pullman Porters and A. Philip Randolph in Back Bay Station.

Me too! I waited an extra day and could only get tickets to Sunday. I went a few years ago by myself and had a great time. I was post-call from a 24-hour shift and despite (because of?) my minimal sleep I really enjoyed wandering around and going to some of the panels. The cosplayers are just amazing and amazingly generous with their time while walking the floor. I'm taking my Dad this year, which should also be a great time. Good luck getting your costume together! Who will you be?
