I recently visited the national memorial in Oklahoma City. I went at night, and the only word I can use to describe it is haunting. The little empty chairs representing each child murdered that day, glowing softly in the night. It is designed to be serene and in a sense it is. But while these chairs glow for peace for their little souls, we must NEVER forget why a sculpture chair now stands in place, representing the short little lives of these little ones. No, foreign OR domestic terrorism should never be overlooked. And I pray for all those that have lost someone they love in one of these tragic events. As a mother of two (three on my due date of July 4th), I cannot even imagine the pain a parent must endure with a tribulation such as this. My heart and souls goes out to ALL of them. He made a career in the military. In 1986, he attended the War College in Carlisle, PA. Shortly after his graduation, he was offered FOURTEEN different positions (of importance, I might add...he was a nuclear engineer), in Washington D.C., most of which offered the chance of promotion to General. He declined them all. For YEARS I did not understand this. Why, after soooo many year, West Point and all, would he NOT take these lucrative, prestigious positions? In one basic word.....politics. He knew the political machine better than others and wanted no part in that puppet show. He was serving his COUNTRY, not a wealthy politician with political interest groups padding his pockets. He instead, choose to pursue a Battalion Commander role in the ROTC program. I'd like to think my father tried to pass onto these 'young uns' the reason why they are serving their country. NOT their politicians, their republic. I, as an adult now and totally immersed in politics, can totally see why he respectfully declined the invitation of being bought out. So, anyways....THANK YOU. What our politicians are doing to us is in no way your fault, nor that of anyone else serving in our Armed Forces. My dad took much of his knowledge, by oath, to his grave 2 years ago. Some things, I will never, never know. But what I do know is that he played a strategic part in the arms race against the USSR. He had a masters in Nuclear Engineering, and his senior thesis from the USMA was classified by the Pentagon. My family, by association to him, has an FBI/CIA file on us thicker than a Clancy novel. All this aside.....(and besides the fact that he is my FATHER).....he died for this country. For you. For you to get on here and mock all of these patriotic, God-fearing people for their beliefs.
