Another question to ponder...if this guy is covered by his employer for health benefits and his "family" is as well, does it mean equal coverage for all his wives and busload of kids as well? That could become a bit pricey, no? I mean, with the assumption that anyone would only have one spouse and therefore a limited number of kids, employers know that there is a reasonable limit to their liability...but with polygamy, there potentially would be no limit to the number of dependents and therefore no limit to the potential liability. Ouch!

In the case of Israel and Jerusalem/Judea/Samaria, it is Israel itself which has developed a civil rights framework that it wants to use to justify its own actions. Of course Israel is right in its cause, but most of the international community has not recognized Israel's right to define this civil rights framework in these geographic areas. Therefore, using civil rights as an argument to justify what Israel is doing has absolutely no credibility or weight in the eyes of most of the world. This is why I think the comparison is rather meaningless (although elegant, I will grant you that).

Caroline, I usually am a great fan but I find this column really weak in its main argument. First of all, let me state that I believe building a mosque at Ground Zero is a complete abomination. Legal but an abomination nevertheless. On the civil rights issue. There is a fundamental difference between the Obama Mosque and the Jerusalem/Judea/Samaria issue. On the Mosque side, Muslims are using an existing civil rights framework which they did not develop or promote to further their cause. The saw that civil rights in the US could be used as a wedge to stick it to America and to the victims of 9/11, and they jumped at it. (please see next comment for the second half)...

I agree with most of the article except for the part about Shirley Sherrod. How can the author state that Obama fired her after caving in to pressure from Fox News when in fact the lady was fired several hours BEFORE Fox News reported the story? No one had ever heard of Shirley Sherrod, who is fairly low on the totem pole, until Breitbart reported the whole incident. It was then picked up by Fox hours later when the damage was already done. To the author of this article, please fact check next time!

Great article...but...I think the premise that Obama objects to a nuclear Iran is false. I believe that Obama is going through the motion of pretending to be opposed to Iran becoming a nuclear power but in actual fact, he is doing everything to slow down any serious measures in order to provide Iran enough time to complete its program. Think about it. What does Obama have to loose if Iran goes nuclear? Iran will not threaten the US. It will threaten Israel and we already know that Obama sees Israel as a serious impediment to his open hand to the Muslim world. It is clear that Iran will soon have the know-how to develop a bomb but will probably not be able to detonate one for another 3 years or so, which means that the problem will very well be owned by the next president. There really is no upside for Obama to confront/attack Iran. I maintain that he actually is not opposed to seeing Iran becoming nuclear.

This is only a temporary setback for the PVV. Clearly, it has momentum and its message of survival against the darkness of Islam is resonating with an increasing number of people in the Netherlands. The coalition of misfits being put together will start sniping at each other about 1 hour after they are sworn in. There will be another election and the PVV will come out stronger and stronger every time. At some point, the Queen will have to listen in spite of how obtuse she may be right now; the Dutch will demand it at the ballot box. Once in a majority position, the PVV will be in a position to implement its cleansing program with no compromise. It will be a new dawn for the Netherlands. Until then, we can only pray for its people.

Talkzalot, I am going to write slowly to make sure you understand this. It is not that hard, trust me.__Jews have been in Palestine for over 3300 years. There is ample evidence both written and archeological to prove it. Jews have also emigrated from there to other parts of the world. You may want to brush up on what the Ancient Testament says, including the story of Israel's 12 tribes. Even your "prophet" recognizes that Jews have always been in Palestine. Got that? When an Israeli Jew converts (not sure whether that happens often but never mind), they would be allowed to stay in Israel because they are Israeli citizens. See, Israel is a democracy which respects the rule of Law as opposed to every hole around it which is either a fascist or Wahabist tyranny. There are over 2M people in Israel who are not Jewish, including many foreign workers who have now settled. Interestingly enough, more than 85% of Israeli Arabs and "Palestinians" who live in Judea and Samaria want to remain under Israeli control. I guess, they know better than you what it would be like to live in a Muslim country under Sharia law and are saying "no thanks".

Also, Jews can renounce their religion, so how would that work if an Ethiopian Jew decided to abandon judaism....would he turn white on the spot or something like that? There is a fundamental flaw in the author's logic that any type of bureaucracy will willingly relinquish power to another authority for the "greater good". This simply doesn't happen under most circumstances. The only exception would be in situations of immediate and obvious national emergency or crisis (and even that didn't work so well after Katrina). But in the case of the current oil spill, the urgency and magnitude of the catastrophe became apparent only gradually and therefore didn't motivate people to relinquish any power. Everyone thought that "they could handle it". With 20/20 hindsight, it is obvious that a mobilization on a national scale, headed by a competent authority (we are still looking for one of those, clearly) would have most likely yielded better results.

Hey talkzalot, How do you explain that Israel, Korea, India were all created around the same time as Palestine and are all prosperous democracies while Palestine which was invaded by Arab countries in 1948 is a tyranny bent on destroying rather than building anything? How do you explain that when Israel gave Gaza back, the first thing the people did was to destroy all the infrastructure (farms, hot-houses etc..) that the Israelis had left behind for them to start feeding their people? How do you explain that Palestinians in Arab countries have never been resettled while almost a million Jews who were chased out of Arab countries have created one of the most incredibly dynamic coutry in the world which produces some of the most advanced research in technology and medecine and shares it with the world? How do you explain that Arab countries with almost no exception are among the poorest and least free countries in the world while Israel is one of the richest and most advanced country in the world? etc...
