<description>To have data in an open format only needs your willingness to do the storage in that manner. Nothing to do with the OS or the software you use, is it?  You can run Oracle in Linux and have the data encrypted or not and have the problem of a million records floating around when the laptop gets &amp;quot;stolen&amp;quot;/&amp;quot;misplaced&amp;quot;. If that data was in &amp;quot;open format&amp;quot; how happy would you be?  </description>
