I think that's a good theory! There's definitely a disconnect between the way Sigma views itself and the way much of the public views it. For example, Sigma surprised everyone by bringing out a 50/1.4 that costs more than the Nikon and Canon versions, but then again it outperforms those lenses.

I'm actually liking the sample images. Some of them have issues, which is always the case for sample issues, but others impress. I upsized one of the Rytterfalk samples to 45 megapixels, and it still looks good in a 100% crop: http://www.seriouscompacts.com/f73/sigma-announce...

Have you ever whined? If so, it's a fair bet that thousands of people were starving and many more suffering somewhere at the exact moment you whined. Perspective indeed.

I'd have to call BS on the lens rumor. That would be a huge lens. If they bring out a fast lens, I'm guessing it will by 3-4x zoom, max.

All,

It isn't because I started mu-43 that this site was left inactive. I got a new job, and my family moved in July 2009. The new job has been a tremendous amount of work, and I've simply been unable to put in the time testing gear and blogging. This site was a labor of love, and I couldn't bring myself to shut it down or sell it.

I am now in the process of trying to re-launch the site in a more collaborative, forum-based format, which I hope will be more self-sustaining in the way that mu-43 has been. I hope that those who have enjoyed this site will check out the new one and help make it a success.

The NX10 sounds like a winner. One of our members at mu-43 gave his preliminary impressions here: http://www.mu-43.com/showthread.php?t=1404

Btw, I bought a PanaLeica 45/2.8 through your Amazon affiliate link today. Keep up the great work on this noisy blog!

A few comments:
1) I never found this site to be slow loading. Not even the original site, which you seemed to think was really slow.
2) The ads never bothered me. You haven't used any of the onerous forms of advertising, and I appreciate that very much!
3) Some will vote that they will support you through affiliates, but some of those are just saying so to have an ad free read.
4) The people who will support you through affiliates will do so even if you have regular ads.

I think you ought to consider more traditional ad sales like the ones sold at The Online Photographer. You have a focused readership, who are ready to pore over related sites. Look at what TOP charges (http://theonlinephotographer.typepad.com/the_onli... and compare your stats to theirs.

The one place I think you could gain a bit in terms of affiliate sales would be if you made it a bit more personal. This blog has a lot of personality, but there are no names or faces to attach to the personality, and that makes it less likely that followers will go out of their way to use your affiliate links. Or maybe not, just a thought!

Even if they won't work together, it seems to me that all bodies should have sensor stabilization. The body could then just automatically disable that IS if a lens with IS is mounted. Seems like a no-brainer to have body IS. Canon, Nikon, Panasonic, wake up!!

As shown in the figure, defects will not be more noticeable at 16:9 on a GH1 than at 4:3. Either way, the extreme corners are placed the same distance from the center of the imaging circle. On a G1/E-P1/GF1/E-P2, defects will be less noticeable at 3:2 and 16:9 than at 4:3 because the wider modes crop out the extreme corners in those modes.
