I agree with the acknowledgment of prayer and god, but there is a direct conflict between spiritualism and capitalism; For capitalism, get money, to succeed, the conscience must be pushed aside. This youth is merely following a mold set before him. Since our evolution across the seas, spiritual cultivation has been a daily practice, but as it stands in 2008, on this soil, the space and time and respect for this aspect of our existence has greatly diminished. And as it has withered, through loss of faith in organized religions to the witnessing of a system that rarely works in favor of Africans in America, a void has been left within the hearts and minds of us. And it is being filled with another way of being. My diagnosis is this; we as a people in AMerica have not had the time or space to heal the emotional, psychological, and subsequent physical wounds of our presence here in America. It has merely been layered over with external stuff. Hiding behind an illusion of ok-ness. We are not well. Psychiatrists consider Post Traumatic Stress Disorder to be a Normal response to an abnormal situation. I'd say we are all in this state, from moderate to severe. We don't need meds, or money, or even land. We need to heal our souls. Then there is a justification for acquiring the fabricated tools of existence. Money doesn't equal happiness. Soul contentment does. Money houses the peaceful soul. I believe all of the issues within the Black community could be resolved if we re-membered and tapped into our spiritual power. Beyond Jesus. He was a great teacher. His lesson was to surpass the flesh and tune in to the frequency of spirit. What better key to overcoming the self-hatred which racism inflicts than to access the spiritual power within. That same force that connects all things with the one. Our relation to god extends beyond what we've been taught. Education is a must to repair the damage this illusion has caused. Spiritual health is a priority. Otherwise, what Are we living for?
