Every Girl Blog : Review: "The Runaways"

I so want to see this! It will be the first movie I've seen with Dakota Fanning in a more mature role - she seems to be making the transition from child actor beautifully. Fingers crossed her career continues this way.

Every Girl Blog : TV Shows Worth the Space in your Netflix Queue

ahhh, I love Six Feet Under! I originally got Netflix just to watch it because Blockbuster didn't have all the seasons. You're right, because each episode starts out with a death, it can get to you. There's this scene where a guy gets severed by an elevator that has always stuck with me. I've never seen an episode of the L Word - I should though!

Every Girl Blog : YA Author Interview: Ally Carter

Fabulous interview! I really like what Ally Carter says about not necessarily preaching about empowerment but instead creating characters that embody those characteristics. I'm going to put holds on the Gallagher Girls books at my library as soon as I finish Diana Peterfreund's Secret Society Girl series. Your recs are always sooo good, Sarah!

Every Girl Blog : Eye Masks for Better Beauty Rest

http://www.bucky.com/catalog/Travel_Accessories/4... - I swear by this eye mask! I use to live in the loft of my apartment and get a ton of sun. This eye mask was a godsend. Comfortable, blocked out all the light, etc. Only downside is people often mistake it for a bra...

Every Girl Blog : Seeing the World! (on a budget)

Fabulous tips, Ais! I had a great experience couchsurfing in Paris in '07. I did however comb the website (couchsurfing.com) for weeks, reading references, looking at photos, etc. before finding the right hosts. One was a lovely 30-something single woman from Southern France who had move to Paris for work and the other was a cool 20-something French-Canadian couple, both spoke English. I felt like I got a more meaningful experience than if I had stayed at a hotel. Plus, the French woman brought me the most delicious pastries on my first morning there! Has anybody else done couchsurfing? What were your experiences like?

Every Girl Blog : An Ariel View: Twi-hards and Potterholics vital to series

"I mean, I enjoyed the story, but I’ll be the first to admit that the actual writing style is destitute and the first movie was so-so." -- I totally agree with this, Ariel! The first time I picked up Twilight, I couldn't get past the first chapter because of Meyer's writing. However, once I saw the movie and got more in to the story, I read the whole series. I really enjoyed being able to discuss it with so many other people and would not have given it another chance had it not been so popular!

Every Girl Blog : Conan O'Brien Says 'No' to Schedule Change

I have seen a ton of "I'm with Coco" and "#teamconan" tweets today. I can't imagine that NBC is happy with the backlash... perhaps something will be worked out? or maybe another network will swoop in and give Conan an even better deal? Here's hoping!

Every Girl Blog : Facebook Status For Support

Thanks for linking, Jen. The author makes some strong points. I particularly liked this passage: "At this point, there can't be a person in the world who isn't aware of breast cancer. What we need is not a context-free reminder of its existence, but a cure, as well as some scientific clarity about how best to prevent the disease." What did you all think of the article?

Definitely. I think your article is a shining example of a way it did spread awareness! Plus, we're dialoguing about it now, it's been all over Twitter even today and other news publications, like the one Jen linked below are writing about it.

I've had to moderate several offensive comments (likely from trolls) on this post, something that I haven't had to do on any other EGB article to date. However, I do not want the commenters to get the impression they're being moderated just because they hold a different viewpoint. Because of that, I'd like to open the issue for respectful, healthy debate! I did not participate in this meme. (Okay, I admit that I was pretty tempted to put "none" for a few minutes.) To me, daughter of a breast cancer survivor and friend of many who have been affected by breast cancer (several EGB girls included), this fun game undercuts the seriousness of breast cancer as a life-threatening disease. It gives the impression of breast cancer and breast cancer awareness as a girly issue that the boys aren't in on just because it involves our boobs. It's why I would much rather wear a "Fuck Cancer" shirt than a "Save the Ta-Tas" shirt. I mean no offense to those who did participate. This is simply my reasoning for not doing so, even though I support the mission of breast cancer awareness. Also, I commend you, Ariel, for including the last three paragraphs of this article!!

Every Girl Blog : Crusaders for Body Image

This campaign is brilliant! However, I'm always a bit sketched by Dove's parent company Unilever also owning Axe body spray and putting out ads that objectify women to promote that product. I don't think corporate hypocrisy should take away from the real impact of Dove's message, but it's something to think about.
