Mark Evans : 2010: The Year of Quality, Not Quantity

Hey Mark, I'm in the camp that the bigger your network gets the less valuable it is. I think this is true for Facebook and LinkedIn, but Twitter is a bit different. The more people you follow on Twitter the less chance you're reading everything thats coming in, but the more people that follow you the more chance people are reading what you're saying. Your goals for 2010 seem like common sense to me. Why would you connect with someone on Facebook or LinkedIn you don't even know? I even restrict LinkedIn a bit further, only connecting with people I have (or want to have) some sort of relationship with. - Alex

Hey Mark, I'm in the camp that the bigger your network gets the less valuable it is. Your goals for 2010 seem like common sense to me. On LinkedIn I only connect to people I know and have some interest in having a relationship with. Twitter is obviously a bit different, you only have control of one half of the equation :) On twitter I seem to have two groups of people I follow, those I know, and those I have some interest in following but don't know. - Alex

Buzz Pressure : Focus Groups, Meh

Hey Jeff, great post, sounds like a page out of Customer Development: http://www.startuplessonslearned.com/2008/11/what... This reminds me of a similar situation we experienced at Booksoft years ago. We'd developed a speakers-corner type video kiosk system for high school students to use to collect video messages for the yearbook, using a laptop and camcorder etc. I designed us a fancy looking wizard for people to use to collect a person's name and grade and photo. Phil, our lead developer at the time told me this was not a very usable interface, but I was in love with wizards... One day we visited a school using the system, and within 5 minutes I was embarrassed about how slow and hard to use the system was... I felt pain for the guy running the system, having to keep hitting next, noticing the student giving the information out of order, and our rigid software making things difficult. We wrote some new code as soon as we were back at the office. We should have got in front of people much sooner!
