Glenn Beck - The 912 Project : Tea Parties

May I also suggest "Paul Revere's Ride," by David Hackett Fischer. I got mine used from Amazon for $4. Its an excellent, well researched (half the book is references) history of the months prior to the battles of Lexington and Concord. I couldn't put it down once I got into it. Its fair, balanced, informative, and interesting. Give it a read, you won't regret it!

Glenn Beck - The 912 Project : Tea Parties

The "media" was at our event. I went to a small tea party in my own county, in Watseka, IL. A photographer from the local paper was there. The local paper is very small, and not exactly what you'd consider to be mainstream media. Still, I'm interested to know what the coverage will be. I thought it was pretty funny when one of the speakers said something to the effect of "The media has flat out lied to us, and I know there are some reporters in the audience, but they ALL need to be fired." Our local paper is kind of ho-hum, most of their stories are basically "He said this, then this happened, So and so called a point of order." etc. We'll see what happens on Monday.

I was impressed by the speakers. We kicked it off with a local pastor saying a few words and leading the group in prayer, and the first speaker was from a local govt. watchdog group. This was followed by a short speach regarding gerrymandering by Chicago politicians by our state representative. I was glad to see him there, but at the same time I think it should be made clear that just because you have a "-R" behind your name doesn't make you immune from scrutiny. We had several other talkers regarding cap and trade, gun control, and the irresponsible media. Overall, I was very pleased with the outcome. But I will admit that there seemed to be a little too much reference to "Obama the antiChrist" for me. To everyone who helped organize the Watseka, IL tea party, I just want to say thank you.

I had a nice surprise today. I was on my way to the Champaign, IL tea party (the same one I attended on 4/15), when my wife spotted a sign only 10 miles from my home that said "Honk if you hate big govt." She reached over and laid on the horn, and we stopped to see what was going on. A tea party in a neighboring town! You can imagine how happy I was not to have to drive two hours for a tea party! We had perhaps 30-40 people. I'd have liked to see more, but with the weather and being such a rural area, I suppose I'll be thankful that there was any at all. I hadn't heard any advertising for this, so I think thats part of the reason for low turnout as well. I think they mentioned that another party is in the planning for 9/11. I'll be there.

Glenn Beck - The 912 Project : 6/10 Judge Rules That Illegals Have Constitutional Rights???

How can a non-resident of this country be entitled to rights declared to its citizens by the constitution? However, I will point out that the judge is correct in admonishing the federal agents for not getting a warrant to raid the house. Warrantless raids, even for illegals, would bring us down a very nasty road. Next thing you know they'll be conducting warrantless raids on actual US Citizens. Which, I suspect, won't receive the kind of media response or free representation from Yale law students.

Mine still are, unless I'm going to be away for a long time. I suppose one day I'll regret it, but I'm hoping its a long way coming. If anything, the gunfire that neighbors hear coming from my property on a frequent basis hopefully serves as a deterrent.

We need more grassroots demonstrations like this to keep the pressure up on the anti-gunners. We have to let them know that we are not going to be shamed into a dark corner because of our values and liberties.

I just wanted to tell everyone about my weekend at an Appleseed Project. The Appleseed Project is run by the Revolutionary War Veterans Association and seeks to teach rifle marksmanship and Revolutionary War history. They believe that they are "saving America, one rifleman at a time." Women, children, and active military shoot for free. Even if you don't qualify, the $70 for a full two days of instruction is well worth the price for the information, and historical information they present. In terms of second amendment rights and American heritage, I think they've truly hit the nail on the head. Check out their website, they've got Appleseed shoots all over the United States: www.appleseedinfo.org

I believe Milwaukee had an "open carry picnic" that went off without a hitch. You're right though, the more and more time goes by the more often the police feel that they are not "citizens-first." The term "police state" has never been used with a positive connotation.

Glenn Beck - The 912 Project : 5/28/09 Speaking of Money, We Are Not Collecting Much From Taxes

Its a loophole they use called "truth in taxation" Basically (if I've got the details right) they are allowed to raise a particular tax (like, say, the school district's taxes) by up to 5% without a public referendum. If you go below 5%, you don't have to have any notice or public vote, its all up to the representatives.

I had asked the question about confronting burglars because this scenario happened just recently a few miles from where I live. Farmers in the area had been burglarized at a frequent rate, and this particular homeowner went out at night with his shotgun to confront two burglars stealing from his barn. The "official" account is that he went out, they started up the truck, he thought they were going to try to run him down, and fired. He killed the passenger, but the driver escaped. This man is now being charged with murder, since the state's attorney doesn't believe his story that he was in direct fear of his life. He is also being sued by the dead burglars family.

This particular officer is a Captain on the city force for our county seat. I'm out in the country, so I don't fall under his jurisdiction. Its been my experience that county officers are much more relaxed than city PD, and a lot more gun friendly. What interested me was that my question wasn't "can I go out and blow them away," it was can I get out and tell them to get off my land. The lecture and Q&A lasted an hour and a half, and was very informative otherwise. I did learn, fortunately, that IL does have the castle doctrine. However with WI recently affirming open carry in the state, we IL residents are relegated to open carry only on our own private property.

I can certainly understand that a responding officer doesn't know the whole situation and needs to sort matters out, but storming in like a cowboy with gun drawn and pointed at the people defending themselves is not the way to go about things. This is nothing more than equating responsible gun use with criminal activity. This is going down a very slippery path whereby law enforcement see gun owners as a hinderance to their duties rather than allies. Am I the only one here who feels the same way?
