"the sparkle realm"

i'm trying so hard not to make a yu-gi-oh! joke, you have no idea

accents aside, the voice-acting in this series holds up really well, i gotta say! keith davids in particular does a fantastic job here

it is literally impossible to separate this show from memories of my childhood, god. i remember running home after school to catch the episodes. my friends and i, just this gaggle of tiny hollering pre-teen girls, used to hike up the back of our jackets and "glide" around with the wind at our backs. we would sit on my front step drawing ourselves as gargoyles. it was just that perfect transitioning moment from younger to older kid, and gargoyles was a fantastic primer for the slightly more complex narratives you meet as you grow

and the scottish accents are still just as terrible as i remember, bless

afaik he writes these reviews directly after watching, so he was probably still operating under a haze of what is this show what is happening at the time

i love the ridiculously creepy note this ep ends on, especially the beast's taunting laughter/singing going right into the credits music

also how is literally every word fred stoller speaks hilarious, what tf is this guys' voice

ALSO ALSO the little russian nesting dolls of the gang on horseback is so stupidly cute, extra points for the frog holding beatrice

in hindsight, i feel like the vocal presences of elijah wood, christopher lloyd, and jack jones in just the first episode should've clued me in to this story being something special

also, every time i re-watch this show the backgrounds blow me away anew. you could literally frame every one. the art book is gonna be amazing (it's due out this september!!)
