I totally disagree with what she said in the video. Its not that we don’t care that 300,000 people died and a lot more our out of there homes. We care a lot, just because we don’t take time off from school doesn’t mean we don’t car or were not good people. There are just so much things that happen that you have to mourn them in different ways. If a family member or somebody close with you died yes you would probably take off time from school and mourn the person more then the 300,000 people who died in Haiti but that’s because it was somebody who was close to you somebody who impacted your life. So it is different then the 300,000 people from Haiti because you were really close with this person. So it meant a lot more to you then the 300,000 people in Haiti. Now who our you to say that the life is more important to you then 300,000. The reason you can do that because it meant more to you because you knew that person you had a connection with that person you loved that person. So No it does not make you a bad person that u mourn or feel worse that 1 person you personally know somebody close to you then 300,000 people from Haiti. Haiti did not impact us in that sort of way, as losing a family member or friend so it is easy to almost forget about it or not think about how awful is still really is. 300,000 people is a lot of people who have died, and so many more are still dealing with the earthquake- you would think we would want to take action and care more, but sadly we just aren’t and we don’t. I think it all boils down to emotional investment. Most people care about what their family is up to on a day-to-day or, at the very least, a periodic basis. Your family, also, of course, is likely to have played some role in your life and been there for support when you needed them. But when it comes to 300,000 people that you don't know, it's easy to move on because, in a very immediate sense, it doesn't affect you in even close to the same way. Now on another note when September 11th happened it me harder then the earthquake in Haiti did. Even though that there are more people who dies in Haiti, a lot more September 11th still hit me harder. The reason for this is because I am from America and it had an impact on my life. The way it affected my life is that I was in 6th grade at the time and in Philadelphia, they let us out of school early and we had the day off the next day. I know that is not much but it still affected my life in a way and Haiti didn’t. I feel for Haiti.
As a male I can tell you that men do not try to conform to society as much as women do. True it is everybody’s human nature to fit in and be apart of a crowd however I do not think that men have it as bad or try as hard as women do in today’s society. Men kind of just do there own thing that don’t care what people think. I feel that the media plays a major role in this, the way the media plays a role is this way. One example is they take a perfect woman and put her on the cover of a magazine and that’s how it all starts. Then men start talking saying how she is perfect and that’s the kind of girl that I want etc and women hear this. After hearing this women believe that this is the right way or the only way to look so they try and changed their body to look like this. So that men will like them more. Another thing that the media does is it has articles about how celebrities or famous people have gotten to fat. When they really aren’t that fat they r just heaver then they once were so in other words there not perfect any more. Well teenagers and girls hear this and they say well if she is too fat that means i am defiantly to fat and she really isn’t that fat. So they become bulimic or anorexic. Now I may be wrong but I have never heard of a male becoming bulimic or anorexic before. And these are dangerous diseases, so if men aren’t doing it and women are then women defiantly try to conform to society more then men do. Now the next topic that I want to bring up is plastic surgery, there is so many different types of plastic surgery for women like breast implants, nose jobs, stomach tuck, etc. Now u always hear about women having all types of plastic surgery on their bodies but once again you never hear of men doing that. What it all comes down to is self-esteem, if a girl can look past the magazine covers, the television shows, and be happy with herself, then that is all that matters. But our society is so stuck on the "perfect" image that it has burned a hole in girl’s heads to make them think they will never be good enough when they are already great. Why do we leave it to Hollywood to tell us what is acceptable and what is not, the world is all about variety, not everyone likes the same things, or else this world would be bland. So women should just be themselves like men do and not let Hollywood or the media control their lives.
WOW! That’s what first came to my mind when I saw this article. When I first saw it I thought it was kind of like grand theft auto a little but. Grand theft auto is a game I used to play a couple of years ago. The game play consists of a mixture of action, adventure, driving, and occasional role-playing, stealth and racing elements and has gained controversy for its adult nature and violent themes. The series focuses around many different protagonists who attempt to rise through the ranks of the criminal underworld, although their motives for doing so vary in each game. The antagonists are commonly characters who have betrayed the protagonist or their organization, or who has the most impact impeding their progress. I remember the reason that my friends and me liked it so much is because we could pick up hookers and have sex with them. The games allow players to take on the role of a criminal in a big city, typically an individual who rises through the ranks of organized crime through the course of the game. The player is given various missions by kingpins in the city underworld, which must be completed to progress through the storyline. Assassinations, and other crimes feature regularly, but occasionally taxi driving, firefighting, street racing, bus driving(vice city) or learning to fly fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters are also involve. Now it only makes sense that years later they have a game where u can rape somebody. Now to answer sam's question how many of you men reading this would play this game with your male friends and a couple of beers? Honestly. Honestly Sam I think I would play this game with my friends and drink some beers and have a good time. Now by saying that I know that rape is wrong and I would never do that but this is only a video game it’s not like were doing it in real life. In grand theft auto u would do a bunch of stuff like kill people, steal from people, have sex with hookers that is all stuff that I know is wrong and I wouldn’t do it in real life. But since it is just a video game I don’t really see that big of a deal. Now people who argue the video game where there is shooting cause people to kill people could argue that this will make men rape women I disagree. The reason that I disagree is because I don’t think that videos game that where u shoot people cause u to kill or shoot people in real life. I just don’t think that that is connected in any way shape or form. By saying that I would play this video game it doesn’t make me a bad person because I know right from wrong and I would never play in real life.
Before I read this article I had already started to think about this. That some time in the future white would be the minority. I wasn’t sure how far into the future it would be or if it would even be in my lifetime or my children lifetimes. I thought it wouldn’t and I was right because kids need to have kids and so on and that’s how it is eventually going to happen. It is not going to happen over night, which some people believe or want to happen. No I don’t really think it will be a big deal because I have experience in this matter. The reason I have experience is because they high school I went to my friends and I were the minority. Even though the school was in the white neighborhood, we were still the minority too other racist. At first going into the school I was a bit nervous but soon after that I was fine. I realized that everything was the same and there was no problems or anything like that. So the fact that minority births are fast-approaching the majority, to me, is a prime example of "not news". I don't think anyone is surprised at this change in our demography, nor are we "concerned" about it because most of us were raised to accept all colors of skin as equal. Sure, some of our grandparents would be disgusted, but that's due to generational differences and they'll be dead soon anyways so no problem there. I feel like in the discussion group each week we always get back to the fact that all old people are racist because that is the way it was back then but now there isn’t that much racism. So I feel by the time that white is the minority it will not be a big deal because there won’t be such a thing as racism or racist people. Because I feel with each new generation they are less and less racist. So Without articles and census results telling us that white people are becoming the minority, I doubt most of the American people would notice these things. The reason I feel this is because as I stated before racism will not be big deal by this time happens. It wont be for years and years now that it will happen and by then I don’t think there will be any more racism or racist people. So by the time this happens it will not be anything to worry about because it wont be a big problem. It is also sort of funny how some white people are actually scared that ‘those minorities’ are going to take over. I honestly don’t know what they are worried about because there won’t be racism by then.
Wow! Wow is the first word that comes to mind when reading this article. I was shocked when I saw what people were calling obama and other important figure in our country. First off nobody in the right mind could honestly compare president Barak Obama to Adolf Hitler. First off you don’t like his views or what he is doing with country that’s one thing but compare him to Hitler someone who killed six million Jews. Is just very wrong. President Barak Obama never ever killed anybody yet alone 6 million people of one race. If u want to get your point across that you don’t like the way he is leading then compare him to homer Simpson or peter griffin. Someone who is really stupid and dumb and who couldn’t lead a country. Yet alone the greatest country in the world. But don’t say that stuff about he being compared to Hitler. Hitler are you kidding me when I first read that I had to re read it to make sure I wasn’t reading the wrong thing because that was just insane. But then I kept reading the article and saw that they dropped the N bomb too. Now that is awful as well we should be at the time now that those words done need to be said any more. There is just no need for that words and words like it to be said anymore. I find it disrespectful for protestors to resort to offensive name calling for purposes of intimidation. While protesting may seem like an effective tool that was used in the past to spark reform or inspire a change in policy, I tend to look at it as an immature and unprofessional way of conveying a point. I understand that power can be achieved in numbers, but to really inspire a change in policy, a more professional approach should be taken including meeting with legislators, filing claims, etc. There’s a right way to protest and a wrong way to protest and this is certainly the latter. There are things that I disagree with that both parties do but I don’t walk around calling them n bomb or f bomb. It’s simply wrong to do. It’s funny that most people think we’re so far past all of this kind of stuff. But let’s be honest, should it really surprise us this much? Yes it should!. Because by now we should be passed this words and sayings, they are just harmful and not needed. There is just no reason that I feel or can think of that those words should be said. I just want to point out again that I am still very shocked that somebody compared Obama to Hitler. Now after I wrote this blog I am still in shock by it. That’s how shocked I was.
First I want to start of saying that I think its really cool that a girl Natalie Randolph who loves football more then a lot of people (not me) gets to coach a team. She was a teacher at the school which allowed her to play and then they needed a football coach so they asked her or she applied and she got the job. Now yes this is all really cool and all but I just don’t see it working at all. First I don’t see the guys or players giving her the respect that she needs to be able to do a good job and win games. Onions. Now if she would come out the first day of practice and just don’t take no shit from anyone and do something that will win there respect over right away. Like I would say go out there is pads and like lay a big hit on one of those guys or the best player on the tem. But I personally dont think that she can possibly do that she is a women and they just are not as strong as the guys she is coaching. With football, I believe most men think that football is not a sport for women to be playing or coaching. For whatever reason, they might think that women are too nice and sweet for the game. Let me tell you looking at this women, even though she seems nice there is another side to her once she is on the playing field. In addition, most guys in high school do not want to be coached by a woman. They think the same things as their fathers and their grandfathers. If our country was already united this would not be a big deal. But since this story made national news and we are talking about it in class then you see that it’s not equal when it comes to football. Women do not have the same rights as men do just because they don’t. I think that it's awesome she found something she truly enjoys and is willing to dedicate so much time into it. Playing women's football is great in itself. We have really come a long way in America with girls in sports. So if we allow girls to play on the team that is something then coaching. The coach can honestly just put any person on the roster and they can be on the team but playing is a different thing in itself. Then coaching is just completely different you need to know everything the ins and outs and everything I just don’t see a women being able to do it. But I do wish Natalie Randolph the best of luck and hope it works out.
I want to start off this blog by saying that I am a white person just to make that clear. The next thing I want to say is that I think that saying theme parties are only done by white kids and they are usually geared towards race is not true of what a theme party actually is. In my opinion, theme parties don’t have anything to do with racial issues. When I think of the themed parties I have been too they have been CEO’s and corporate hoes, anything by clothes, Jersey shore, highlighter parties, beach parties, underwear parties, Catholic School Party, Toga parties, ugly sweater parties and stop light parties. If u wanted to make a case for something you could say the parties were sexist but that wouldn’t be true because the guys wear the same thing as girls. So you really cant say that either. Some people would say the jersey shore themed party people could be making fun of people from new jersey or of Guido or Guidets but they really are not they are just wearing what they wear. So I don’t get how that is making fun of them unless you consider that they make fun of themselves when they wear it. The next thing u can say the Catholic School Party is offensive to catholic’s but again it isn’t because they are not making fun of catholic’s all they are doing is wearing catholic school uniforms, so that would not be offensive. I really like what Furrbaybay said “ And after all, if I am going to a party I am probably generally going to be in a pretty good mood as it is. I'm not going to concern myself with what someone is wearing just because it might be over the top that is what the whole point of a themed party is for, to go crazy and look ridiculous. To say it is generally white people, that's not really fair. This school has more white people anyways, so if it is being represented at all you are going to see it more from the white side. That doesn't mean that African Americans aren't having just as much fun with the theme. No one is intentionally trying to offend anyone at a party, especially not an entire racial group. People drink, say and do stupid things, and eventually someone usually gets offended at one thing or another. Best to just remember that we are all trying to have a good time on a Friday or Saturday night and let it at that”. I feel that what he is saying hear makes plenty sense nobody is trying to have a [arty to offend anybody they are really just trying to have a hard time after a long week of classes.
First I want to start out again by saying that this class was once again very interesting. Now about the question do I think that a black person or a person of color who is in charge would pick a white person or a person of color? I feel that a person of color should pick the best possible candidate for the job and they shouldn’t look at the skin color of the person at all. So I don’t think that they are more likely to pick a person of their color or a white person based on skin color. Because if they are a successful business person I know that it probably to a while and a lot of hard work to get too where they are and if they wouldn’t have been given a job when they first started because of there skin color they wouldn’t be where they were today and able to make the decision they are. Now I know that I am not talking about previous experience because I have only had one job and the person who hired me is white and I am white, but I think that I am just hoping that this world has change and people don’t base people on skin color any more. But as I learned in the discussion group last week that, that in fact is not true. A couple of the kids in my class who were people of color were telling us stories about they got in trouble with the cops for not doing anything except being a person of color on a Thursday. I really thought that stuff like that had stopped a while ago but I guess that I was wrong because it has happened recently. When I heard that I was very shocked and after hearing it I am wondering if there would ever be a world where race is a not a problem. Where everybody will get treated equally no matter what skin color they are or where they are from. But on the other hand I still don’t see a respectful business man being racist or he probably wouldn’t have gotten to where he was so I expect him to do the right thing and hire the person best suited for the job. I don’t think they would use reverse affirmative action and have to hire the white person. Like I don’t feel like we need affirmative action any more as we were discussing in the discussion group a couple weeks ago about the NFL and the Rooney rule where they redskins new they were hiring a white guy because he was the best for the job and they had to waste the time of a black coach just to interview him because of the rule. I feel that this is really stupid and I hope there comes a time where we wont need affirmative action any more.
I first want to start of by saying how great the class was the other day I thought it was very interesting. Now the reason that I decide to answer this question is one I know the person who asked it. And another reason is that I thought it was an interesting question. But I decided to change it around a bit too why is it more allowed in society when to girls hook up with each other then when two guys do. Think lesbian woman are more accepting than gay men because I think woman in general are more accepting about sexuality, and freedom of making choices, and choosing the way an individual wants to live. Like girls have no problem being around each other naked or changing in front of echoer when guys are the opposite they don’t want to change or see each other naked. Now especially when you are at parties guys are always cheering for girls to make out with each other but you never hear girls tell guys to make out with each other. In society it is seen as “sexy” or a turn on when guys see girls kissing girls. Girls that are not lesbians are often found kissing or doing other inappropriate things just to please guys. Whereas, when girls see guys kissing guys, it is a total turn off. No one really seems to find it attractive when two men kiss for entertainment. Now by this I am only talking about guys or girls making out with each other I am not talking anything more then that. I feel that people in society are not more accepting to girls being lesbians and to guys being gay. They feel the same way about both of them; they just like it when two girls who are straight want to hook up. It’s not the same when they are lesbians doing it. I am not saying this is the way that I feel I am saying that is the way society is. I also feel that the media or celebrities play a role in this starting with Kate Perry who came out with the song” I kissed a girl” it goes like this I kissed a girl and I liked it The taste of her cherry chap stick, I kissed a girl just to try it I hope my boyfriend don't mind it, It felt so wrong It felt so right don't mean I'm in love tonight I kissed a girl and I liked it I liked it. SO when singers are writing there songs about this then girls are tempted to try it out because they are curious. So that is the reason I feel that it is ok for girls to make out with girls in public but nor for guys to make out with guys.
I thought that in class the other day Sam’s lecture was very interesting in other words it was awesome. It was really cool the points that he made during the lecture about equality and how pretty much every about penn state got there because of there parents. What I mean by this is that or what I got out of it was that I owe a lot to my parents. Because if it was not for them I would not be where I am today in your class at penn state. If I were even in school I wouldn’t be at the top school of my choice. Now I am not saying that I am rich or anything like that I am just saying that I had the people pushing me to do my best. I wanted to do good because I didn’t wanna let them down. I would feel bad if I got a bad grade on a test so I would try my best not to let them down. Now yes my some of the opportunities I had were different because I got sat tutoring and took sat prep courses which allowed me to do better on the sat and get into penn state. There are people who couldn’t affords to take sat classes so they wouldn’t do well on it and get into the college they wanted too. Now when it comes to People and there party people have conservative or liberal biases and based upon those views will consider themselves part of one party or another. Since there are only two, the selection is not very extensive. We do the best we can. Because the choices are narrow if one has a strong conservative view on a particular subject it is likely he will adopt the Republican label. The same patterns occur with Democrats. It is hard to be pro choice and decide to be a Republican. Most of America is in the middle. The majority of Americans holds a composite of views and almost always has to compromise its values to find a candidate or party to support. Because we all have different personal experiences our viewpoints are impacted as well as our political philosophies. Being an independent, middle of the road thinker makes it more difficult to find good candidates. Now back too Tuesday’s lecture was so far my favorite class I have been to. Sam did a really great job presenting both the freedom and determinism views, which I know, got everyone to actually think. I think that I myself have always looked in the middle of both. I come from a working class family so I understand both sides. But I do think that sam had some great points about it.
